What an impact the new Russel T Davies series, “It’s a Sin,” has had.
If you've not had chance to watch this series yet it is on ITV Hub and my partner Jamie and I binge watched it last week along with a record breaking 6.5 million people. If you have watched it you will know that this is a heart breaking drama inspired by the lives of 5 friends living though the HIV/AIDS crisis in the eighties and nineties, with an awesome eighties music sound track.
Last week as a direct result of “It’s a Sin” there was a 50% increase in HIV tests and hopefully the series has reminded people of the seriousness of the disease. One fun thing to emerge is “La!” the musical note as in “La, a note to follow So” for Sound of Music fans.
The term it only meaningful to people who have watched “It’s a Sin,” but it serves as a reminder of the impact of AIDS, without the dark overtones. It has also inspired Jamie to open a new Etsy shop,
“Queer Gifts Co” which will focus on providing handmade gifts with an LGBTQ theme - the first of which are a range of three unisex "La!" T-Shirts - 10% of all profits from the sale of these will go to the Terence Higgins Trust.
