ok i wanna put out another call for advice in re: building a community of tiny houses/microhomes for sick & homeless queer / trans folk, to build a largely anti-capitalist commune type thing wherein we would help each other get to doctors and share resources like food and money, and where we could take in ppl who cannot work to live rent-free.
in the first place, my roommates and I who want to do this are all sick and brain foggy anxiety monsters, so we need help brainstorming and gathering info. we already have a lot of specifics about what we would want the houses/community itself to have if it becomes plausible, but obviously we dont actually have any money which is our first problem.
after this apartment (lease is up in a few months) we have nowhere else to go, and a couple of us for sure would die if we wind up on the streets again. but everyone in the house is white. while im not going to say i dont have selfish motives (b/c i would very much like to ... be alive), we also would prefer NOT to continue to have ""ownership"" (which i dont even like saying b/c the whole idea is to be rid of that but whatever) of this idea/project, and we want to make sure it benefits the homeless and poor ppl who already live here and have needed it longer than us.
statistically speaking, that would be mostly POC. so so so many people need this type of thing that i would love to see it happen *anyway,* and it would be really super cool if i could like, get in on this and also not die. but we are super disinterested in using our white privilege in inappropriate and patronizing ways if it can be avoided. we also want to remain cognizant of the very much race-related events happening all over and particularly in Ferguson. we're broke and would need to use social media to get support for this, so we want to be sensitive about when we actually do that, since we do not want to take away from the very very important things the people in Ferguson are relying on social media to get through.
anyway theres a lot to talk about i wont put in here for the sake of brevity, but if this sounds cool to you and/or you have something to contribute in re: making sure we avoid acting like big white douchebags (even if that means abandoning the idea of the project as-is) - feel free to hmu on here, my ask box is open, and i also have skype so yeah please help or give advice if you can thanks
