Quelvin came into my life unexpectedly around 2 years ago. At the time he was living a handful of houses up the street from me. He was 14 and part way through 5th grade. Our friendship was a gradual build that started with me letting him use my skateboard for some weeks, offering him water, and inviting him in to cool off occasionally on hot days. Once the trust was there it was intense though. One day he came in the house and hung out for a little bit and he’s been back just about everyday since. He does his homework here, he eats here, he hangs out here...I take him to his soccer practices and games, we bought him a bike, we take him to movies, and we teach him how to be a good person in a world that isn’t always good to us.

I love Quelvin. He has been the best part about moving to St. Louis. I’m not sure what either of us are gonna do with ourselves once I’m gone.

took the kid to black panther tonight. now he’s asleep in the living room. as i left the room i said “ninafurahi wewe uko pamoja nasi” and he laughed at my shitty accent. i hope he knows i mean it.
