Who: Gwendolyn Goyle & Quentin Crabbe When: February 26th, 1978 Where: The Slytherin Common Room
Gwendolyn Goyle was bored. Without her brother here at Hogwarts, she didn’t know how to keep herself busy. What was she supposed to do with no one around to tell her what she should? It was a difficult adjustment to find herself alone at Hogwarts for the very first time. Ever since she could remember, Gwen had relied on her brother for, well, practically everything. Without him, Hogwarts just wasn’t the same. At the beginning of the year, Gwen had done her best to rediscover her old routine of bribing a younger Ravenclaw to do her assignments, making sure the house-elves kept her dorm tidy, and attending classes looking no less than impeccable. It was the same old sights and sounds, but she’d managed to manage herself quite well. It was exhausting, sure, but she persevered.
While the biggest change this year seemed to her the absence of her brother, Gwen couldn’t help but notice that the situation at Hogwarts was growing ever more dire. Everyone was just so tense, constantly tittering back and forth about such and such or so and so, but Gwen saw no point in it. What was the use in worrying so? When the time for action came to pass, someone would let her know, and she knew she would be alright so long as she followed direction. It was simple, and yet everyone always had to try and complicate things.
Gliding through the Slytherin Common Room, Gwen glanced around for someone who wouldn’t be utterly depressing company and was quite thrilled to see her dearest friend in what she knew to be his favorite spot. “Quentin!” She greeted brightly, sinking down beside him on the worn leather couch. “Your timing is spot on, as always. I found myself in need of some company, and here I have the very best.”
