Etain is always losing her coats/jackets/cloaks the minute she takes them out of the house/ship. When Darman inevitably starts going what?? again??? how?? before eventually shaking his head and resigning himself to it she jokes that it’s “just a Jedi thing”.

Which it kind of is, but really probably has more to do with her occasional lack of impulse control/ tendency to get herself into trouble/ tendency to live in the moment and get distracted by Bigger Things.

On the positive side, anyone stumped for a holiday gift can probably safely give her a new sweater/ Cool Jacket/ pullover for her favorite sports team without too much risk.

He just crawls across the couch she's seated at and lays across her lap with a heavy sigh. "Etain, I tried. Please, forgive me if our less than sweet ad'ike kill each other in the hall."

She doesn’t blink. She doesn’t sigh. She does roll her eyes, though not at him, shaking her head as she runs her fingers through the dark curls of his hair.

“Am I the only one who misses the days when we could confine Kad’ika in the playpen?” Scout, of course, had never been that easily contained, but there might have, on occasion, been more meditation that was strictly necessary. 

Thinking of it, Etain does sigh, tracing her husband’s hairline with her thumb. “Teenagers. I guess I should try and intervene before they break my furniture. Or each other.”

"I am not wrong, but there is something here we don’t understand."

Despite the seriousness of the situation, Etain’s lips twitched into the smallest curve of a smile at Rhedian’s tone. There was that stubbornness again, just like when they were children. Not that she could cast stones; there was a reason she and Rhedian had both been placed in Dragon Clan. 

Rising to her feet with only the slightest creak of armor, switching the glowrod back to her offhand, Etain went to go stand by her friend.

“Of course, Rye. What are you thinking?”

"Kad'ika picked them.." Scout situated the flower crown on her buir's head.

Etain ducked in good-natured compliance, angling her head so that Scout could adorn her with the crown of wildflowers…not that Scout really needed any help from her to reach. She thought she recognized the  smaller flowers she’d seen during her swims in the lake.  They had a faint, sweet scent, and she smiled widely as Scout pinned the wreath into place.

“But it was your idea how to arrange them, I’m guessing? Should I be worried about a camera?”

As she said it, she reached down and plucked Kad’ika up from the ground, the four year old giggling happily at his mother’s more festive appearance, and then breaking into a shy grin as Etain leaned in to kiss first his cheek, and then Scout’s.

“Thank you, cyar’ike.”

"How'd you get this?"

Send me “How’d you get this?” For my muses reaction to yours tracing one of their scars and asking how they got it.

Etain freezes self-consciously as Tari puts a hand on her shoulder and traces the deep, jagged-looking scar peeking up over the edge of her camisole. Probably Tari can only see the edges of it; beneath the camisole it’s worse, still dark and long and jagged. The part peeking above her undershirt, though, is still bad enough.

“It’s…”

The Jedi frowns, then pulls away from the touch, uncomfortable. With an almost distracted air, she pulls greying hair back out of her eyes. And as crazy as it sounds… she has to think.

She’s hardly sat still since the Clone Wars, and that scar is far from the only one she’s acquired, no matter how often Darman reminds her to be careful, or begs her not to go on missions without her beskar. For a moment, distracted as she is, she genuinely has to think to remember the story behind that particular injury.

“Rescue op,” she says finally, “We were discovered in an enemy detention center, and I’d ditched the beskar for a stolen Imperial officer’s uniform to get us in the front door.”

There had been a lot of blood from what little she recalled of the aftermath, but her memory was largely spotty. She’d had to have Scout fill in the blanks afterwards.

☠: A popular fanon headcanon about my character that bugs me.

Her death is just fanon, okay?

but seriously, this fandom is small and Etain doesn’t seem to be one of its most popular characters, so I don’t think I see a lot of fanon considering her. Actually, I’m not sure I see any that comes from outside our RP group…

That said, I will fight certain people for the way they tend to characterize Etain and her canon actions. 

Like, yes she has moments where she is alternatively stupid, selfish, or naive. But that is not the sum of her character, and some people treat her really harshly for

not being Bardan, basically

doing the same things that they praise Kal for

choosing to sacrifice herself for another person, which is apparently “stupid” or “selfish” because she’s a female character who happens to be married and have a child (I have seen this and it made me LIVID)

being a young woman in an incredibly vulnerable position who doesn’t entirely know how to handle it

Like, they reduce her to this self-absorbed, thoughtless (sometimes promiscuous, for which we have KT to thank for all the completely unnecessary lines) caricature obsessed with her supposed self-righteousness, when instead what we have is a vulnerable young adult in love whose entire world has been turned upside down, has no healthy emotional training and no real support system, and who is doing her best to make decisions when her entire morality system has been upended.  

On a, uh, less vehement note, there also seems to be this perception that if she’d lived she would have turned her back entirely on the Jedi and her sense of herself as a Jedi, and I just really disagree with that? Like, I think some people are mixing her up with Bardan, or with KT’s authorial stance, bc we see her carrying that conflict between disillusionment and the Jedi values and self-identity she was raised with in every book. She literally dies bc of that conflict.

Also, it would be really interesting to see a Kast Fulier, although he’s so vaguely written and I have some specific headcanons, so it would be interesting to see how that would go

An in the category of characters so minor probably nobody remembers them: Gett and Clanky? I really need Etain to get to see them again, and preferably rescue them
