Being the troublemaker child he is was, Luke’s childhood is filled with memorable events– one of them being the first time he whacked a tree down. He had spent to much fantasising the moment he would be allowed to wield an axe ( his father forbid it for the longest of times ), that the moment he was given permission, he swung it for days on end– it took him quite a while to get used to its weight, simply from watching his old man he hadn’t expected it to be so heavy at first. Once he got used to it, he went out to cut down a relatively small sized tree ( Dale wouldn’t let him do a bigger one ) but, probably because he was so excited, he cut the trunk of the tree the wrong way and it ended up falling on him. He’ll never forget the fear/pain he felt that day as he lay immobile for who knows how long until Chief brought Dale over to get him out && how for the first time it dawned on him how dangerous a job being a carpenter really was ( neither will he forget the lecture he received && how grounded he was once they got home ).
Despite all that, though, he couldn’t get enough of the feeling of accomplishment he felt at successfully cutting down a tree. Be it his simple mindedness or his stubbornness or whatever, to this day he continues on in his way to be a master carpenter. ( He still has a scar, as small as it may be, on his back to commemorate that event ).
