Dudes, can I talk about the blackout club?
It’s a Co-Op Horror Game by Question but that’s far from all it is. Let’s just start there for now. It’s a WILD game, my friends got it for me and I played the tutorial back in like, the summer, like forever ago. I didn’t have much stamina for it, because I suck at horror and stealth games. I could do a few missions at a time before the jump scare adrenaline would wear on me a bit and I’d take a break. I then kinda put aside for the school year, (I put a lot of things aside this past school yeah), but not all my friends did and buddy that is when the REAL game began.
Because not ONLY is it a horror-co-op game. It’s a horror-co-op game with like ARG/Real time interaction and roleplay elements. There’s this feature called “Enhanced Horror” where you say “yea it’s okay to leave my mic on while I’m playing for reasons even if I’m not transmitting to other players.” Which leads into the first mechanic: lights of rebellion. Some players call them prayers. When you finish a mission you can have dreams of real players asking questions and talking to “voices” or “gods”/“daimons”. And getting a light of rebellion and going to the mirror in your base will let YOU send a 30 second prayer to a voice of YOUR choosing. It might be answered!
In addition to THAT which is WILD on its own. You can sometimes get a whole VISIT in your game from one of the voices! They’ll talk to you IN REAL TIME because there’s a voice actor on the other side improv-ing at you. And when I started playing again and asking the senior players for lore and the current big story and stuff I was deeply entertained but didn’t REALLY expect to get involved myself. And then hooo hoo guess who busts into my game and scares the pants off me thanking me for my xp sacrifices and prayers? Yeah, one of the gods. I was flustered but ever since then I’ve been reading more lore and getting involved and trying to have something intelligent to say next time, if I can manage to stop stuttering and crying into my mic. Who knows? It could happen.
But wait there’s MORE! If you so desire you’re allowed to send in a character sheet of sorts to the developer with your character’s name if it differs from your screen name/username, your pronouns, and a little bit of your backstory if you wanna get some more involved roleplaying during dream replies and interactions. Even the hivemind that wants you brainwashed ain’t transphobic here. The side of the community I’ve interacted with is also very LGBTQ+ friendly in general.
But yeah, the blackout club??? Absolutely wild game. If you wanna like roleplay being in a cult for 14 year olds maybe go give it a look? It’s literally incredible considering how small the dev team is, give them love.
