Just realized that Hyaena and Quggai are a sort of parallel to the Insect Queen and Titus from Hoppers. They're a mother-son duo who act as antagonists to the MCs. Granted, there are differences.
The biggest contrast is between Titus and Quggai. While both are sadistic psychopaths with short tempers who'll dispose of people they have no more use for, Titus is more of a spoiled, psychopathic man-child who never cared about his mother; on the other hand, Quggai is a calculating, clever hunter with a twisted sense of honor who, surprisingly, loves his mother. There's also the fact that whereas Titus is hated by all (even his own subjects, seeing as none of them rose to avenge his death), Quggai is respected, and not feared, by the poacher ring.
Then there's the Insect Queen and Hyaena. Both are unhinged, elderly 'mothers' who rule over a group (insects for Insect Queen, Dorcean poacher ring for Hyaena) and are greatly respected leaders. But the Insect Queen is more reckless and has a nasty temper (which got her killed) that she conceals behind a refined demeanor, while Hyaena is more cold-headed and very cunning.
