I came across the Quickie Mickey challenge hosted by @jmaruyama on Instagram. I wanted to take part, so I drew Steamboat Willie era Mickey Mouse with the Kingdom Key D Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts. I like the contrast of Mickey's monochrome form vs metallic colours of his Keyblade.

I’ve had this idea of drawing myself and Mickey in my head for a while, and I’ve decided to use it for my entry for #QuickieMickey by jmaruyama on Instagram! 😊 I just love this yearly art challenge! (And yes I have that Fantasia hoodie, it’s one of my favourites! 😁💙)

Whenever I think about Mickey, I feel so much love and joy, and also that when things look uncertain, there will be a light of hope. Mickey’s positive, sweet-natured and outgoing personality lifted my spirits and brought me happiness on days where it felt lost. He’s always been there, ever since I was a young child when my mum bought me the VHS tape of the Prince and the Pauper. 🧡

When I saw this little figurine, it resonated with me so much, I wanted to base my drawing on it, and as I pictured it in my head I began to experiment with the light and colour to bring a sense of warmth and love this moment has, and I feel incredibly proud of it, I don’t play around with different light effects too often so I’m really pleased with how this came out~ 😊✨

One day I hope I can acquire the little figurine, it really is so beautiful and sweet. I know that it would bring a smile everytime I look at it~ 💕

Here’s what I whipped up for quickie Mickey by Jerrod Maruyama! I decided to be a little more ambitious than last year and make an animation, since me and Mickey have pretty much “grown up” together, he’s been with me in all parts of my life, and all of these little frames are based on real pictures of me and him, with the exception of the last 3 being my fanmade Mickey design, Prince of 1000 Wishes, and a cute little picture from ‘Of Irises and Roses’, my Musketeer self-insert story. Mickey really has stuck by me through everything, he’s been a literal ring I wear everyday, a plushie I can hold, a character to warm my heart this year when I saw him in Disney On Ice as his sorcerer self, and I’ve improved so much at drawing him since last year, I couldn’t be prouder of my accomplishment! 🥹

I really hope you like how this turned out because although I’m not the best at animating, I do want to try and create more little frames and moments. I also love the song I chose, it’s by Sonny Eclipse at Walt Disney World and I thought it’s so beautiful, I kinda imagine it’s me singing it about Mickey, in the way of “you’re my favorite star and I’ll come visit you again soon”. Especially since my best friend sent me a video of Mickey waving at me and blowing a kiss recently, I appreciate how we’ve been “besties” all this time, and some of my friends even consider me his “sister” or “twin” since we’re very alike and have such a special bond. Anywho, enough rambles and I hope you enjoy this little animation for Quickie Mickey 2025! 🥰

I also received a gift from said bestie where she revealed she got Mickey to sign my art alongside getting me the 2025 Sorcerer WDW ears and hoodie and AAAAAH

This is my original outfit set for Mickey and Friends, named Prince of 1000 Wishes. It symbolizes how Mickey has created so many dreams and memories for many, he’s a prince of a kingdom created by a king with a million dreams, and he carried on those thousands of wishes and spread them to so many hearts. 💛

Apparently there's some trend on Twitter of "Quickie Mickey", where people are drawing pics of Mickey Mouse. I decided to give it a go myself, with him all set in his Kingdom Hearts 0.2 duds.

May try to get around to coloring it since it kind of looks odd to just have his head colored in (which itself didn't look right until filled with black).
