Opening a Patreon...and more

Lately I’ve been giving a real thought about my art online. Let me explain and I'll gladly read your feedback:

You all know by now that I started learning to paint digitally in 2011, and in 2013 began selling some of my art as merchandising via Redbubble. I tried more platforms like Teepublic and since 2017 in Etsy, all of them with a modest revenue that kept me motivated to continue drawing illustrations (focused on merch), since the feedback I've been receiving through the years has been 100% positive (and I can't thank you all enough for that!)

Making a bit of cash from my art gets harder and harder every year due to copyright issues, and I really enjoy creating fanart and not original stuff. So now it’s basically luck if the selling platforms don’t ban my illustrations when I upload them, even just if “resembles a well-known franchise character” (yes, I’m looking at you, Printful), so I have to tag my art with strange tags, very hard to find organically or just delete it. That's why I have such a different catalogue depending the site.

I don’t live of my art, and I don’t intend to, but of course that extra cash is very well welcomed and I’m already counting with it every month. Also, I really like to sell my illustrations as stickers or prints, and reading and seeing pics of happy customers that will carry a piece of my art wherever they go. That makes me really happy and I don’t want to stop doing it. So I’ll continue trying, until I get banned.

I want to focus more on my comics, as it's really positive for me in all senses. That's why I’m trying opening a Patreon page, so I can dedicate more to my doujinshis and not have to rely so much on my merchandising for that extra cash at the end of the month. I’ll be dedicating the Patreon to give early access to my doujinshis (Escaflowne and Dr. Stone mainly) and I’ll also show works in progress and special downloads.

I'll continue posting my stuff on social media as always. Patreon is a way to support me while getting some extra art on the process ❤️

Doujinshi Escaflowne Tales: “Letters to another world” (2021) Chapters 1-2

In 2021 I embarked on another personal endeavor: the creation of a multichapter comic centered (again) around my beloved anime series, Escaflowne, inspired in my previous work, the long old “Second Chance” comic from 2015.

However, during my pregnancy, my health took a turn, rendering me unable to continue working on it. It was a difficult decision to place this cherished project of mine on indefinite hiatus.

Summary (spoilers chapter 1-2):

Hitomi Kanzaki, sad, ill and heartbroken, finds herself waking up in a place she thought she had left behind forever. Gaea, the magical realm, greets her with open arms, presenting her with an opportunity to embark on a fresh chapter of her life.

As she reunites with her dear friends Merle and Van, a mixture of wonder and excitement fills her heart.

Doujinshi Escaflowne Tales #2: “Windy days confessions” (2011-2013)

Three short stories about Escaflowne and some random one-shots that were created during 2011 and 2013. These stories were created just for fun, to find and develop my art style. Warning: narratives are heavy-text and not very clear. These are very old stories, after all.

Summary (spoilers):

“Six months after”: Hitomi takes a coffee with Amano six months after the end of the series and reflects on her feelings with her new situation.

“One year after”: Hitomi talks with her mother about Van and the experience of Yuri, Hitomi’s grandmother, in Gaea.

“Windy days confessions”: Van realizes about his feelings for Hitomi and feels jealousy when he sees her with Allen Schezar.

Confused and overwhelmed, Hitomi confides in Van and Merle. She shares her story about why she wrote that book, offering a glimpse into her sad experiences since she returned home. As Van delves deeper into the political and social consequences triggered by the appearance of the book, Hitomi begins to comprehend the far-reaching impact of her words.

Van hesitantly unravels the truth, shedding light on the reasons behind his sudden disappearance from Hitomi’s life years ago. While this revelation carries its own painful weight, Hitomi, ever resilient, decides to set aside her personal grievances for the time being. Instead, she resolves to focus on shaping her future within the captivating embrace of Gaea.
