hi, i just discovered and binged the entire fic so far lol

at the end of the last chapter quentin tells link to always save zelda over him. I loved how you wrote it from quentin's perspective and his reasoning, but what are link's internal thoughts on the matter? personally, i feel like link would always end up picking zelda since he's duty-bound as the appointed knight, no matter how much it would hurt him to leave quentin in danger.

anyway, i've loved the story so far (easily my fave LoZ fic) and look forward to the next update!!!

That’s a very complicated question ahaha which I’ve had to put a lot of thought into. Link’s duty is big, and he’s not only the appointed knight but THE knight to defeat Ganon (not that he knows this yet) and so not only does he want to protect Zelda as a friend and knight, but he has a divine purpose and feeling attached to it, something he can’t explain.

However, he’s also in love. He loves Quentin more than anything, and it’s very much in his nature to want to protect him with his life too. And that’s what makes it so difficult for him. He hates the consequences tied to his actions, that if he were to pick the love of his life, the Princess of Hyrule, the one to seal away Ganon is going to die and the kingdom is doomed. If he picks Zelda, the one he loves dies. It all goes back to that classic feeling of a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.

Also, he’s been a knight from such a young age that sense of duty is drilled into him and hard to extract. That’s his normality, to put the crown first.

I think he would choose Zelda but it would be the hardest decision of his life. He would choose Zelda because he knows that it’s the right thing to do. He would try his hardest to choose both, but if it came down to it, it’s her to go to.

I did make sure in the chapter that he almost went to Quentin. That it’s never going to be an easy decision for Link, and that he’s more than his duty, he’s someone in love. His heart chooses Quentin, every time. But yes, ultimately he would have to save Zelda.
