First pic of my quinkan art for TY the Tasmanian Tiger 3: Night of the Quinkan. If you were watching me from the beginning on deviantART, you'd see a couple older attempts at this guy (which 'thank you' if you're still watching <3).
I will warn you guys, the visual height measurement is only approximate AND it's when they are at full height, meaning their legs are stretched out and not scrunched (which is normal for most of them).
Gah, I have some weird fascination with this species. They're a great example of what I like in certain multiple enemy designs in games: At the base, they are similar, but placing the fine and minor details in, they have their unique variety. But anyways, yeah, dark colored, smooth looking skin, very monster/alien-esque, stylized yet makes (some sort of) sense, etc ACK! MY HEART! I LOVE THEM! Initially I was just going to do the quinkan, but after watching Markiplier play Deep Rock Galactic with his friends on Twitch, I got a jolt of motivation to draw some other fauna, flora, and geology as well. In Deep Rock Galactic, you mine in these extraterrestrial caves and caverns filled with minerals and alien insectoids, and IMMEDIATELY I was like, "THAT'S what their home dimension looks like! It fits so well!!"
Also, I am fully aware these creatures are actual legends in Australian Aboriginal myth, which I have tried my best at researching to get to know the "real" ones better. The ones I am drawing are from a VIDEO GAME made from people in AUSTRALIA, so they had inspiration, WHICH I'M DRAWING FROM. Fascinating. The TY series is the sole reason why I not only got into the Aboriginal myth, but the reason it is in my top favs. I may not be a native to Australia, but I can appreciate the detail they put in, especially the little Rainbow Serpent Easter Egg in the first game, which nobody would acknowledge in-game, nor players even knowing what it is unless they did research. And the tasmanian tigers (thylacines)! I'm even MORE heartbroken that they went extinct after I grew up with this game, learned of the actual animal's existence, and then its untimely extinction all as a kid :'( However, they are a cryptid with multiple sightings, and scientists may have found DNA of one...and cloning is a thing so HMMMMMM???
You can tell I'm passionate about this game and its inspiration :V
