i actually tried getting into birding a long time ago as a science thing (i wanted to document all the birds i saw and contribute to a database by cornell university) but i just didn’t know where to go to look. i took out a whole bunch of books from the library and everything :3

and that’s so cute that you hear one every morning! i have really vivid memories from my childhood of going out first thing in the morning when the dew was still on the grass with my computer (so maybe i was an odd child who wrote essays for fun, what’s it to you…) and sitting in the yard. and there was always a chickadee, singing away its song.

also fun fact about birds: except for during mating season, the vast majority of canada (except for like a tiny sliver of bc, southern ontario, and the maritimes) doesn’t actually have crows! the black birds we refer to as crows are actually common ravens. you can distinguish their calls because crows have really short calls, like a “caw caw caw,” whereas ravens put their whole hoo ha into it with a long trilling/screaming “caaaaaawwww.” so a crow is what i sound like if im startled, a raven is if i see a snake ;)

i really want to befriend a raven some day. get in the routine of feeding them every morning, slowly earning its trust. i think maybe if i invite its friendship, i won’t go as mad as edgar allen poe did ;)

(also fun fact: in grade five i memorized the entirety of the raven. i don’t remember much of it, but i think i could probably recite the first stanza or two?)
