Hey I wrote like three things for a red string soulmate au with Chris and Trilby
Would anyone be mayhaps interested in me posting it here instead of just in discord
Bad Dreams
Trilby had no idea how long he had stayed up. He didn’t care, really. Chris is the number one thing on his mind and he wanted to be there for him.
It all started after they got back from the museum. That night, the nightmares began. Chris would wake up, crying after he had seen Trilby dead in his dreams. He was unable to bring him back. He couldn’t save him in time. He was useless.
But every time, every time he would wake up from these nightmares, Trilby was there. He would always be there to comfort him and tell him “It’s okay. I’m still here.”
It always led to cuddles, late night movie watching, making each other food and even some kissing. One of these nights after a particularly horrible nightmare, their comforting kiss turned into something more passionate. He just wanted him to feel safe, to feel that everything will be okay. The Order is gone now. They won’t be going on field work for a long time. Things will be back to normal soon. That’s what he told him while he was cuddling him and kissing his neck.
That would lead to Trilby being tired. He would fall asleep at his desk while trying to do paperwork, fall asleep in the break room, Philip even caught him sleeping by the coffee machine one time. Chris would jokingly call him “Sleeping Beauty” because he would be sleeping so much. Trilby didn’t have the heart to tell him that he had a reason. He didn’t care. What mattered to him was his fellow demon hunter boyfriend.
It had been 2 months since they got captured and Trilby was making Chris his favorite meal after he woke up from yet another nightmare. He was thinking they could go out and see the stars. Keep his mind occupied. Maybe he should ask him about speaking to a therapist. But, considering his bad experience at the mental hospital, it would be hard. He had to give it a shot.
“Hey, honey. Your food’s ready.” He said, giving him a peck on the cheek as he set the food down.
Honestly, Trilby didn’t mind being here like this. At least it gave him an excuse to not be doing his paperwork. All that didn’t matter to him.
He was the only person that mattered.

happy late valentines day from the ministry of occultism!
this is old but huHGFkjdg I’ve been thinkin ab Miitopia again
here’s boys, also
Claire: If you two broke up what would you do after?
Chris: Is it like, is it just like we didn’t end up working out or did I do something bad or did he do something bad? Because if we just went our separate ways I’d ask if we could still be friends, if I f^cked up I’m gonna try and apologize then leave him alone, and if he f^cked up I’m taking off his fridge door.

Trilby: You’re taking my *what*?!
Museums and Abstract Paintings, A Quinnby Fic, Chapter Seven
Trilby walked into his boss’ office, she’d called him in about a promotion. He didn’t know the details yet but he was honored to be considered for a higher position. He knocked on the door, entering when he was told to, “You wanted to see me, ma’am?”
His boss smiled, “Yes, as a matter of fact I did! I’m sure you’ve been wondering what this promotion you’re being considered for is.” She said, getting straight to the point.
“Yes, I have been.” Trilby said, sitting down in the chair across from her, he noticed a lot of the things in her office had been packed into boxes... that couldn’t be the promotion, could it?
“How would you feel about becoming a minister?” His boss confirmed his suspicions, and his eyes widened.
“Are you leaving?”
“Yes, I’m retiring. And I think you would be fit for my replacement, agent T.”
Trilby paused, shocked, he knew he had a good reputation at the ministry but he didn’t know he was seen as fit for a job like this. “When would I start? There would be training, correct?” He finally spoke. His boss smiled.
“Yes, I’d train you for about a month before you would start the job, and even then you’d have guidance from the other ministers of course. So, will you take the promotion?”
“Yes-it’d be an honor, thank you.”
“No way.” Chris grinned hearing the news Trilby had told the others, “Oh my god no way.”
“You’re gonna be our boss.” Claire said, leaning back, taking in that fact.
“Congrats!!” Walker grinned, “That’s great man!”
“Yeah, good for you. We gotta celebrate later.” Simmons smiled, he was a new face in the group, he’d been working there maybe a month now. A close friend of Walker’s who’s got tied up in one of the other’s jobs and was offered a position at the ministry as a result. He was quiet for the most part, already seemed dedicated to the job. Despite this it was clear he was on the impulsive side, ready to throw aside what was smart for what he thought was right. Chris worried a bit for him, sometimes doing what was right could get you killed real easily.
“I guess so, I’m really shocked, I didn’t expect that I would be considered for a position like that.” Trilby was smiling as well, Chris guessed he was probably excited about the promotion, but also trying to keep his usual composure.
“I mean you’re definitely a good fit!” Chris said, “I’m sure you’ll do great!”
“Yeah! If I’ve ever met someone who could be a minister it’s definitely you, Trilby.” Claire agreed, beaming at the ex thief.
“Honestly I expected Chris to be promoted before me, I mean you’ve been here longer than over half of the other agents.” Trilby admitted. Chris had to fight back a laugh, he seriously doubted they’d promote someone like *him*. Walker couldn’t fully hold back his own laugh. “What’s funny, Walker?” Trilby raised an eyebrow, Chris was surprised by the defensive tone to his voice.
“They’d promote me before they’d promote Quinn, and I can barely keep a secret.” Walker said, “No offense man, I don’t agree with the reasoning at all, but, I mean we all know it’s true. The higher ups have their favorites, not everyone’s lucky enough to be on the list.”
Chris chuckled awkwardly, all too aware of the glare Trilby was giving Walker, “I mean yeah, you’re right. I’m a ‘loose canon’ to them!” The demonslayer did some exaggerated air quotes, hoping to disperse the tension, “Besides it’s too much paperwork, I’d rather die. I like action.” Trilby still didn’t seem okay with Walker’s words, but he wasn’t staring at him like he was about to lunge at him or something.
“Hey, we can go out for some drinks or see a movie after work? I can pay.” Simmons spoke up, and Trilbs turned his attention to the new agent.
“Sounds fun, that movie based on the Stephen King novel is out. We could check that out.”
“Pet Semetary?” Simmons asked, “Never read the book but the movie does look good.”
Chris and Trilby ended up spending a lot of the movie joking about the special effects and how fake it looked, while Walker told them to shut up and watch. Nobody mentioned it when Trilby fell asleep on Chris’ shoulder halfway through, except Claire who said she didn’t understand how anyone could sleep during a movie like that. On the way out her and Simmons were arguing about rather or not it was actually scary, “God they’re acting like an old married couple.” Walker laughed.
“The idea is terrifying, I just think most of us are desensitized to horror sh^t y’know?” Chris shrugged.
“Desensitized is a strong word for it.” Trilby responded, “All of us still have a lot to fear from the paranormal. It’s just stuff like that is so obviously fake.”
“Exactly! Thank you Trilby.” Simmons huffed, “It was so cheesy.”
“Oh screw all of you.” Claire rolled her eyes.
“Says that one that cried.”
“Simmons I swear to the ancients!”
“Fight! Fight! Fight!” Chris began chanting.
“Don’t encourage them-“ Trilby was cut off by Walker joining the chanting, he shook his head, those two could be like children.
“I’m not going to fight my friend you numbskulls.” Simmons scoffed, “It’s just fun to tease her.”
Claire nearly instantly calmed down, “Oh.” She paused, “I’m gonna put salt in your coffee though.”
“She got her pettiness from me.” Walker announced proudly, puffing his chest out.
“Of course she did.” Trilby laughed, unable to suppress a grin. He had to admit Claire could be rather petty, usually it was expressed in the means of pranks.
As the rest of the group said their goodbyes for the day and went home, Trilby and Chris stood in the cinema parking lot. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence, for the two of them to linger back after their friends had left, Trilby always felt like they were waiting for something. He didn’t know what that was though.
“Well, I’ll see you tomorrow, right?” Chris asked, a smile on his face.
“Actually, do you want to visit the museum?” Trilby offered, “The art one I like has a new exhibit, abstract art.” Tonight he wanted a bit longer to wait with Chris, maybe he’d figure out what he expected to happen.
“Isn’t it closed right now?” The demonslayer replied.
“Like I haven’t snuck us in before.”
Chris had to admit there was something nice about being in the museum at night. Trilby had bribed the guards enough times that nobody was going to do anything about them being there, and it was nice to have it to themselves.
When they got to the new exhibit they ended up sitting down next to each other, Trilby leaning against Chris. He put his arm without the other without even second guessing himself.
When they agreed that what was said in museums stayed there, they’d ended up almost flirting really. Chris was sure Trilby was only joking around, after all he’d mentioned being the type of person to flirt for fun more than for a relationship. Chris however? Every compliment, even off handed pick up line, every moment staring into the other’s eyes, was fully sincere. He knew nothing could come of it, but having a place where he didn’t have to be ashamed of his feelings, where they seemed almost reciprocated, it was amazing.
He’d spent so long feeling ashamed of the way he loved. He still felt ashamed. But he could forget that here-with Trilbs.
“I’m glad there’s no guards in here right now.” The ex thief hummed, “I’d get in trouble for touching one of the masterpieces.” And just like that Chris was red as a tomato, trying to gather his thoughts enough to get out a response.
“I-I wouldn’t call myself a masterpiece.” He laughed awkwardly, “That’s you, definitely.”
“I’d say we’re both masterpieces.” Trilby smiled at him in a way that made his heart flutter.
“Nah I’m uh-the type of abstract painting where nobody really understands why it’s there.” Chris laughed off his flustered state, clearing his throat.
“… Abstract art is all about how you look at it in my opinion.” Trilby replied, his smile fading. Chris realized the other probably didn’t find his self deprecation as funny as he did. “Personally I see why you’re here, I see a lot in you. If you’re abstract art I’d pay millions to keep you.”
“Aw gosh-Trilbs it was just a joke, you’re gonna make me melt.” Chris muttered, trying to hide his face in his trenchcoat, “There’s no need to get all sappy, mate.”
Trilby wished Chris realized how sincere he was, he wasn’t just being sappy he was being honest, laying his heart out in a way he couldn’t do without guard rails. Of course that’s what the museum was, a guard rail, it’d be so easy to play it off as a joke and leave it behind them because everything that happened here wasn’t spoken of once they left. He felt like he might be willing to throw those guard rails away for Chris, maybe, one day. When people were more accepting, when he’d worked through more of his own issues, when he could without a doubt know Chris felt the same. Right now? He didn’t know. He’d spent so long running from everything he didn’t trust himself not to run from this. But maybe one day.
In the meanwhile he watched Chris melt into his trenchcoat, part of him wishing Chris saw what he did when he looked at the demonslayer, “I’m serious. You’re priceless.” He insisted, “A true work of art, Quinn.” He put a bit more of his weight on the other as he spoke, and he really didn’t think a human being could get any more red without face paint involved. It was cute. Chris was cute.
It was hours before they left, and by the end of it Chris was a flustered mess, and Trilby seemed much more put together, but Chris hadn’t missed the dust of pink on his cheeks, or the sheepish turn his smiles had taken.
“You know one day I’m gonna get you back for messing with me so much.” Chris mused as they walked out together. Trilby chuckled.
“I’d like to see that.” There was a teasing tone to the ex thief’s voice.
Chris smiled, pausing before going, “I’m glad I know you, Trilbs.”
“You know we’re not in the museum anymore, right?”
“And I don’t care who knows it, I’m being completely sincere, my life is better off with you in it.”
Trilby was taken aback by that, the pink on his cheeks growing, “Uhm. You too, Quinn I’ll uh-“ He cleared his throat, “I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah, see you.” Chris couldn’t help how happy that blush made him.
Trilby couldn’t stop thinking about the last time him and Chris were at the museum, and what Chris said. It was just the type of stupid sincerity the demonslayer would drop with no warning. But it gave the thief a type of confidence he didn’t have before.
He even thought of the perfect way to do what he wanted to.
“This is… quite a large ruby. Where did you find this?” The jeweler squinted at Trilby.
“Family heirloom, so how much would you need to take part of it and turn it into a necklace?” He asked, “Money isn’t an issue I assure you.” He couldn’t think of a better way to tell Chris how he felt. He’d just have to find the courage to give it to him.

Tw for internalized homophobia, anxiety, and self depreciation, our boys are a mess
“I don’t know-sometimes I catch him looking at me and I feel like my head is spinning. He’s so obnoxious but I still wouldn’t work with anyone else if given the chance. He’s my best friend Claire, I’d spend the rest of my life by his side even if he drives me crazy-is that normal?” Trilby sighed, putting his head in his hands, “I can’t understand how it makes me feel and it’s driving me up a wall. I want to run every time I see him but I also can’t wait to talk to him..”
Claire paused, she’d offered to help him talk through some conflicting feelings he’d been having over Chris. The demon slayer had to be one of the most confounding parts of Trilby’s life. He wanted to understand why he felt the way he did around the other. “… Trilby I think that it’s less you don’t know what you’re feeling and more that you’re scared of feeling it honestly.” She said finally, Trilby vaguely could guess what she was doing. Whatever she could tell was going on in his head, she felt he’d immediately deny it if she pointed it out, so she wanted him to come to the conclusion himself. “Trilby can you stop trying to analyze me after asking me to read your thoughts to help you?”
“Right uh-sorry.” Trilby muttered, “… What do you mean I’m scared? What do I have to be scared for with Chris? He’s harmless.”
“We both know it’s not Chris you’re scared of.” She said, staring at him. He managed to hold his composure despite wanting to squirm, why did he have to ask for help? Maybe he should just go back to his own office, he could think about this later. Claire was right, he was scared of facing the way he felt for Chris. He was hoping to find some way to write off the assumptions of what might be there, but this was only strengthening them.
“I know what you’re implying and-there’s no way. I don’t feel that way for him. I can’t.” The ex thief retorted, taking a deep breath.
“Why not?” Claire asked, “What’s so bad about it, it’s not like you’ve never felt like this towards anyone before-heck it’s not even unlikely that Chris returns your feelings. I’ve seen the way he looks at you.”
“No-there’s no way. I can’t feel that way-not towards Chris. It’d never work Claire-I’m a mess-he’s a mess too, not to mention I’m not a queer.” The agent was getting aggravated, or maybe defensive was a more accurate term. He didn’t want to believe that, well he had to, it was his own feelings, but he didn’t really want to face them. A vague memory of his father was in the back of his head, rants he used to go on about his opinions on the community-how they all needed their ‘sickness’ treated in institutions… He felt sick to his stomach. She was right and he knew she was-he loved Chris. But he didn’t want to. God he really did not want to. He didn’t want to because he knew one way or another that love would hurt both of them. Especially if Chris returned those feelings. They had too many enemies-too many weaknesses. Even if things somehow went smoothly Trilby would mess it up. He always did, with everything, everyone, he got scared and then he got angry or he ran. It was what kept him alive as a thief, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t a long line of people he’d hurt, it didn’t mean that it didn’t hurt him. He wanted to cry or yell or panic. He was barely managing to hold it together. He had to hold it together. The more he freaked out the more questions he’d get from people when they noticed.
“Trilby-“ Claire seemed at a loss for words, shocked by his reaction to the suggestion.
“I’m not in love.” He insisted, “If you’re still in my head, I suggest you get out.” He stood up, “.. Thank you for your help but I think I’ll handle this on my own.” He walked out of the room, hurrying towards his own office. He wanted to be alone, he needed to calm down.
Of course, life had never been good at cooperating with the ex thief’s plans, and Chris was already in the other’s office, holding a cup of tea. The redhead’s expression lit up seeing Trilby, then changed to concern when he noticed the state the other was in. The shorter of the two didn’t think he’d ever wanted to leave a room so badly… well that was a lie. There’d been a lot of rooms he’d wanted to leave quite a bit more. Still, he’d rather be just about anywhere else.
“Are you okay, mate?” The demon slayer asked, walking over to the other, Trilby shoved past him and sat down, trying to ignore the confused and worried look the other was giving him.
“I’m fine, Quinn.” He grumbled, looking through his paperwork, he’d already finished it all. Dammit.
“… Ookay then I won’t push it, but I got you tea. That lavender kind you like.” Chris handed him the mug, and Trilby suddenly felt rather rude for his actions. Maybe what he was upset about was about Chris, but it wasn’t like the demon slayer had done anything purposely to cause it. It was Trilby’s fault if anything.
“… Thank you.” He took the drink, sipping it. It always tasted better when the taller agent made it… It wasn’t just because of whatever chemistry they had either, the rest of the ministry agreed. Chris could make some amazing drinks. He paused, he shouldn’t ask this, he especially shouldn’t ask Chris, but… “You’ve worked here a while, do agents ever date each other?”
“Uh.. yeah, pretty often actually. I’ve Uh-I’ve actually done it a few times. It normally doesn’t end well but nothing really does in this line of work, Y’know? You go into it knowing one of you will probably die or get changed by some traumatic event.. why?” Trilby couldn’t shake the fact that Chris looked almost.. hurt. There was no way it could be jealousy, right?
“… no reason, I just heard another agent talking about going on a date with a coworker.” Trilby lied, pretending the cup of tea was extremely interesting, he felt like Chris could likely see right through him. He wondered if he’d be disgusted if he could.
“Right uh-well I hope things go well for them.” Chris said, his smile returning, “So, how much paperwork have you got?”
“I don’t know why it hurts so much, Walker I knew he didn’t feel the same way but it still feels like someone ripped my heart out.” Chris sighed, not making eye contact with his friend, “I know he said he was asking because of somebody else, but you don’t ask questions like that for other people-he’s in love with somebody. And I know it’s not me.”
“You don’t know that, it could’ve just been something he was thinking about-you know Trilby, he’s always got about five hundred things on his mind.” Walker offered, Chris appreciated the support but..
“Don’t give me false hope, mate. If I’m going to see him with somebody else I’d rather be mentally prepared for it-hurt now so it hurts less later or whatever.” He paused, “I hope whoever it is that he’s happy with them.”
“… Maybe. I mean we both know Trilby takes death as more of a suggestion than an order. Then again so do you.” Chris knew Walker added the second half without thinking, so he tried not to go down the rabbit hole of his own past relationships and… how they tended to end. “I’m sure he’ll be fine.” The other added quickly.
“Yeah…” Chris sighed, “… Is it okay if after work I come over for a few hours? I…” Chris trailed off. He didn’t want to finish the sentence, ‘I don’t trust myself alone’. How many times had he told people that by now? How many times had sh^t hit the fan and he wasn’t even capable of staying in his own apartment afterwards? It felt even worse that it was because of Trilby. His life didn’t revolve around Chris, and it wasn’t like Chris felt he was entitled to the ex thief’s affection or anything. But it still hurt. He still didn’t want to be alone with his thoughts. He knew it wasn’t his fault any more than it was Trilby’s and he didn’t want his brain to have a chance to try and convince him otherwise.
“… Yeah. You can spend the night if you want, Ana’s got an essay for school I’m sure she’d love your help on, and Susanne was asking me how you were doing the other day, so she’ll be glad to see you too.” The other agent smiled at him.
“… thank you.”
“Any time. You’re my friend, Chris-hell, you’re pretty much family at this point.”
Trilby went straight home after work. He didn’t go to his room however, just sitting on the couch. He looked through the puzzles in the newspaper, realizing he’d done them the day he’d gotten it. More than anything with this situation.. he was scared of hurting Chris. He’d never been good at feelings, he preferred to ignore them and hope they went away. But he’d ignored these feelings already, and they just ended up affecting him more. Eventually they’d bubble over, but he felt like the fear and self loathing would overflow far before any of the tenderness or affection the demon slayer made him feel. He wished he could say he’d only end up burning himself but he knew that wasn’t the truth. It wasn’t like he could just avoid the other either. They were work partners, and it wasn’t as if either of them could safely leave the ministry.
“… What do I do?” Trilby asked the empty room, sighing quietly to himself, “… he’d probably hate me if he knew, wouldn’t he..?” He muttered, “… he wouldn’t actually.” A short pause.
“… I think that might be worse.”
