old friend, new friend
>Uthaln was a hard presence to ignore. There was always something about him that held your attention... and there was something about you he must've liked. When you made the decision to erase your existence from your cult, it was not a clean cut. You couldn't just wrench yourself away from them, they'd only retaliate and sink their grip into you even harder. You made sure to do it slowly. Just attend fewer gatherings, talk to fewer people, no one would notice if you just quietly faded away. Though you disappeared from the memories of most, Uthaln kept a keen eye on you.
>When you finally managed to separate yourself from the flock, he continued to contact you everyday. The emails were structured the same way, starting off friendly and asking when you'd return, but always end on a vaguely threatening note, pushy and insistent. It was a little odd, but that's just kind of... who he was. You were used to it, and just replied at your leisure.
>Since leaving your hive, you'd been putting him off more and more, now.... otherwise occupied. You were still getting the hang of things on the new planet, but thankfully you were being met with nothing but patience. By the time you even thought to check your email, your inbox was flooded with messages, all from a single sender.
>Everything looked normal enough, an email a day for the time you'd missed. Then suddenly, there were six all from the same day, all in quick succession. This was kind of concerning, and you scroll back to start from the beginning. Everything seemed fine at first, it's like he didn't even notice you were gone... but things slowly began to go downhill.
>He's vague, but mentions doing something... bad, and the desperation in the emails only grew. A sick feeling settles in your stomach as he mentions only bits and pieces of what happened. You had to help him. He was terrible and cruel, two-faced and manipulative, and you had to help him.
>He needed you to.
>You were given this chance and you wanted it for him. You'd have to keep him on a tight leash for a while, but you had to at least try.
>You send Uthaln a message, telling him you'd agree to help him but, there were stipulations. Not even twenty minutes pass and you receive a reply.
esotericPersuasion <[email protected]> >>If it means I can escape what I've mistakenly believed to be my family, then I'll try my best. >>I can't promise, but I will try. >>I've been at your hive for a few days, now. I'm sure everyone's heard what's happened. Word travels quick when you ain't got nothin' better to do. >>My life is in your hands, Honey.
>His word doesn't mean much to you, especially online, but... Despite his many bad traits, he was very staunch to his faith, and loyal to a fault. Something must’ve happened for him to want out so suddenly. You send him another message to hang in there, you had to have a discussion about this first.
>You close your computer and try to get your thoughts in order. What exactly were you going to say? 'Please help my horrible friend.' doesn't sound very good in your head, and it’s probably even worse out loud. Uthaln made the situation sound dire, but you weren’t sure how urgent it really was. He did have a tendency to be dramatic. He said he’s already been in your old hive for a few days, so you figure a few more wouldn’t hurt. You set your computer aside and tuck your knees to your chest, wondering when Xaddus would return home.
