for frigga's death i'm neutral so i'm open to any interpretation (at this point i feel like the conversation has evolved to encompass the general trope, which is what i'm addressing) the problem with not crying fridge when a female character dies is that in mainstream media it is more likely to be fridgeing than not. anything in a grey area is going to be misinterpreted, which only perpetuates the trope and doesn't help matters (if it's obviously not fridgeing, then don't call it, of course)

right, but what I’ve been trying to say is that Frigga’s death wasn’t fridging, and a bunch of people really disagree. Words and phrases have this tendency to change definitions or even become meaningless if overused; I think that ‘fridging’ is a very useful term, AS IT REFERS TO A SPECIFIC TROPE that really should be abolished, and I don’t want to see that happen to it. And that’s not even going into the fact that I really like Frigga and I thought her death scene played out really well. She’s like a female Obi-Wan Kenobi or something, all sacrificing herself with honor so the hero (Jane) can live to fight another day. It upsets me to see all that reduced to “well, she was female, so therefore everything sucks.”
