Col landed on the hot earth, wiggling dark, tattooed toes on the scorching soil. Human feet would not be able to stand such temperatures, but it felt like home to the White Necked Raven. Well, almost home. It was a lot closer than the temperate climate The Raven had insisted on living to accommodate his pet humans. Col didn’t really see the point if the other side of the veil was so different anyway. His dogs seemed to survive just fine. Speaking of which...
An especially large Ethiopian wolf trotted up and sniffed the ground at it’s master’s feet and whined. Coming down from the mountains was not Bernard’s idea of fun. It was much hotter here.
“You could have worn shoes like a human.” This comment made the wolf snort in distaste. Col grinned, “We are in the path of the creature. Whatever it is will arrive soon enough.” He looked around in the direction from which the ‘something’ was supposed to be coming. Whatever it was had apparently smelled of bird-kind or else it would not have been Col sent to intercept it. Hopefully it would at least be interesting.
