dropping factor levels in a subsetted data frame in R
I have a data frame containing a factor. When I create a subset of this data frame using subset() or another indexing function, a new data frame is created. However, the factor variable retains all of its original levels even when they do not exist in the new data frame.
This creates headaches when doing faceted plotting or using functions…

So we went to the Houston Auto Show Today:
We got their at 10am, so bad I skipped church again but it was a long weekend and it's only once a year.
So we went to the Houston Auto Show, get there bright and early so we can test drive stuff. Got a bunch of madzda swag and I drove the 3 5-door in red it was a nice little ride.
Finally got to drive an FRS but my knees were touching the dash and i had to brake with my left foot and almost had to cramp. Full sized adult men, should never, ever be put in the back seat of the 2+2 FRS. Even for me I was crushed as tight as the seat could go but we made a PACT that every car we test drove we would all ride in it no matter what as long as it had four seats.
Also got to lay the hammer down and burn it up in the new Mustang 5.0 with the standard transmission. Look, I'm sorry but she drives like a big fat boat, the steering floats and has no feel to it, and DROPPING 400 HORSES FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THAT WAS EXCITING!
Needless to say, our group was the most popular with the test drive crews. We hung out with the riders a lot and had a great time and they were all happy with our driving, mine especially because I'm so silky smooth even with all that power under the clutch.
My lil' buddy managed to snag a test drive of the CTS-V coupe and we piled in the back of that. The space back there was p. good but, well, my other friend had to slouch. Anyway, that thing hauls, 550hp is serious oomph. That thing rode like a rock, it was impressive. He also drove the ATS and said it was tight, very impressive handling but the turbo 4 really doesn't feel as powerful as they say it is.
So that's what I did all day, it was a blast. I might upload some pictures. THE NEW IMPREZZA DOESN'T LOOK AWFUL, WOW!
Also I broke the qt's record lap at laguna seca on the race simulator that was at Mazda's booth. They were running clubsport spec Mazdaspeed Miatas in R-Factor in a 20+ car race where you start 6th. My first run was with the broken stick shift. It only started at 3rd gear and it was impossible to get it into gate. Managed a 1:26 lap from start at Laguna Seca in the miata. I finally got a clean run and beat the prettygirl's time (1:21) and set a time of 1:17 which is damn good for a miata. That was a nice set up and I am really contemplating springing for a G27 race wheel but I've got nowhere to mount it and I need a racing seat.
