On Arachnophobia
I used to be terrified of spiders. Like, heart racing, sweaty, make-bad-choices scared of spiders.
This fear was starting to become a problem back in 2020, when I wanted to spend hours a week in the woods at night- a pretty spider-heavy endeavor. I was like "Ok, that's it, I gotta get over this". So I made the deranged decision to start taking portraits of spiders. Now? I like them.
This is (I think) in the genus Rabidosa. Long legged, stripey, and pretty cute in the face.
I MEAN. Come on, that's cute.
Here's he same individual from the top.
When I was keeping spiders a few years ago I offered my rabid a crumb of cucumber just to see what would happen, honestly didn’t expect her to take a sip from it considering she had access to fresh water 24/7 haha
@lilyinthesnow submitted: Almost stepped on this mama and her babies the other night. I took a few pics and then she wandered off. She seemed pretty chill. Not sure what kind of spider she is, but it was cool to see all the babies. Southeastern Oklahoma if you're up for an id on her.
Ohohoho she and her one million babies are beautiful and perfect! Look at her lil face...precious. The only spiders you’ll see carrying their babies around on their back are wolf spiders! So she’s a wolf spider...looks like in the genus Rabidosa, so either a rabid wolf spider or a dotted wolf spider. I’d need to see the abdomen markings to say which, though!

@walkintheshadowsdanceinthesun submitted: I suspect this friend is a wolf spider, but I'm not sure! This was in [removed] (please remove the location) and I know they're native there.
Yep, definitely a wolf. I’d put my money on a male dotted wolf spider, Rabidosa punctulata :)
