Hello, hello! What's been your favorite moment in Critical Role Campaign 3 thus far?

Hard to say. Some of this is because I distinctly remember being under ten years old and asking my father his favorite color and he explained that it's extremely dependent on context and I have inherited or similarly developed that (ie, more specificity will give you much better answers) and some is that the structure of C3 is such that I was kind of waiting for the shoe to drop for a lot of the campaign and so that colors my perception.

Anyway right now I actually really love the moment of the Malleus Key activation and the parties realizing they're split. I also liked the Chetney Gorgynei battle a lot; the first reveal that there's a city on Ruidus; the weird rhyming guy in the Feywild; FCG's visit to the Changebringer Temple in Whitestone; and the Laudna and Ashton conversation in the sandstorm in Bassuras.

A lot of what I’ve set out for my characters is just extrapolating scenarios (in terms of backstories or various situations they’ve run into) and taking that to a conclusion I think is interesting, or I think that the canon doesn’t explore enough of. There are a lot of ideas and tropes both in the game and the RP sector that I simply wanted to explore or respond to. Eline’s whole deal and as well as Charibert being one of the only dark-skinned gender-nonconforming (he has lipstick) characters introduced, with his flamboyance being hand-in-hand with his clear deviance and sadism were things that bothered me enough that I wanted to respond to it. If something bothers me, or simply sticks with me, I want to write about it, and the lens I usually choose is fiction rather than writing meta. Similar thought processes went into me playing Adi as a Shroudborn duskwight (and just the meaty, meaty premise of someone from a crumbled/fallen social society who struggles, rightfully so, to trust a modern one), and a Raen who survived the Garlean occupation. I just don’t feel like we get to hear from those people enough.

When I design a character, I also conceive of their musical taste and fashion style, each of them exploring ideas and subcultures that I enjoy. So, for instance, Etienne is a romantic and pastel goth who dabbles in elegant gothic lolita and the various sub-styles. Their tastes are in female singer-songwriters (think Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, etc.), goth and industrial music, and dream pop. Adi is a metalhead but also carries influences from punk, trad goth, and dark mori. Houmei is just unabashedly a vaporwave mer-person and an Arizona iced tea can but also has a high likelihood of having shitposty glams and inspirations (for instance, I recently made him a “straight male RPer” glam).

Me too! Right now they’re kinda awkward learning how to life without overbearing and super involved parents but they will be a true power couple in no time. I cant wait until they live together and have some rugrats!

Hi ! Really enjoying the story you're telling. It's inspiring. Here's a question for the crew and captain: what's your most and least favorite part of space travel?

(Thank you! I’m glad you like it ^.^ Thanks also for the ask. It was a fun question to answer. Everyone had a different opinion, so the answers got a little bit long…)

Nyota: If I had to pick just one thing… There’s a kind of freedom in space travel that I’ve found nowhere else. I can choose to go wherever I please. Unfortunately, quite a few of those places have people that are trying to kill me, which would be my least favorite part. I’m glad I learned how to defend myself from them a long time ago.

Lumen: Seein’ the stars up close. It feels like comin’ home. Can’t say I’m fond of the times I gotta stay behind, though. Makes frettin’ a whole lot worse. Captain Nyota can look after herself, sure, but she ain’t too good at stayin’ out of trouble, and it’s usually the sharp kind.

Namina: Floran iss fond of making new friendss. It’sss nice having people who aren’t afraid of Floran. Sometimess Floran misses the rain, though. No rain on ship. Sssometimes planets rain fire. Nassty.

Hadley: It feels like I learn something new every day out here. Nyota and Namina are almost always up for a good spar, too. Back with the boys, it was all business. I really like being around people I can have fun with. We run into some really scary things, though. Captain told me not to head to the moons, so of course I had to go see why and, well… See, scorpions, giant bird gods, and spookits I can handle. Glowing purple space worms that I can’t shoot? Never want to see one of ‘em again.

Sonny: We don’t find ‘em often, but I like explorin’ asteroid fields! Bein’ weightless, jumpin’ from rock to rock, and all that glitters is gold, silver, or a flamin’ rock tryin’ ta blow yer head off! It’s the grandest thing I’ve ever seen. Shame about all the monsters tryin’ to spoil the show.

Name a muse you have written in the past. What was your favourite thing about this muse?

I answered this about my only former FFXIV character here!

I wrote a lot of OCs with a friend I’ve since lost touch with - we played in html-based chats and on message boards, and I also played a lot in the DWRP community! However, I didn’t play many original characters in that setting. The one that I did play a lot as an original character was a character from a webcomic/project a friend and I worked on (as well as a project I later worked on independently, with Clare as a side character instead of a main), most currently named Clare. Clare was an angelic being who was endlessly cheerful and optimistic in a very dark setting. My favorite thing about them was how much compassion they had for others no matter how cruel or sarcastic others were. I’d imagine what encouraging things they would have to say to me when I was having anxiety attacks at my old job.

Name a muse you wish to write in the future. What’s your favourite thing about this muse?

Well, a few years ago, as a one-off, I created Etienne’s mother’s family, who died slowing down her husband Telesphore’s pursuit of her. I made her have a brother who is really only described as a caring brother and an expert marksman, and named him Zaher, after the lead singer of Myrath. I decided his visual design would be based after Zaher Zorgati too, and that he performed music as well as being a marksman. And then I realized I really liked the idea of the character, but he’s been dead 31 years! So I’d have to retool the character and either make him not actually related to Etienne (which would be a shame, because I can imagine him as a very cool uncle who’d take Adi under his wing too, even if they wouldn’t be related, and I might also have an AU where he raised them both and they started a band lol) or think of a very good reason he’s disappeared for 31 years. Maybe if he was on the First somehow? Portals? Time travel? At least in terms of RP, it’s not all that weird for people to just have Sudden Relatives. It’s already happened once to Etienne.

The thing I like best about him is just that I think he’d be cool, fun and charming. And to be honest, I think it would be fun to see how it is to write a male character who has a very socially apt aspect (like Etienne has), because I feel like sometimes it can be really easy to write a charming dude like HE’S CHARMING AND HE’S HANDSOME AND HE’S CHARMING AND LOOK HOW AWESOME AND CHARISMATIC HE IS SO HOT HE IS PANTIES OFF LADIES AND LADS GET AT THEM FLIES and then whoever’s playing with them is just like well o k a y ...

I also have a muse for Telesphore, Etienne and Adi’s father. But I don’t think I’d ever play him as a muse. He has a specific purpose.
