okay but like the whole ‘no hay banda/silencio” scene in mulholland dr gets me SO HARD like

the whole scene is about the fact that there IS NO BAND and betty&rita are TOLD that there is no band, and yet both we and the in-film audience are surprised when the singer falls and we in fact find out THAT THERE IS NO BAND

and like the whole thing is within a film and is basically a metaphor for the entire goddamn idea of watching a film because

the film is NOT REAL and we as an audience know that it is NOT REAL and yet we are affected emotionally and psychologically as if it WERE REAL... just like betty&rita cry at the performance, so do we

the entire thing is a goddamn farce and we willingly fall for it i love it
