On the Eastern Front, Germany seizes more of the Russian Empire. While guarding Russian prisoners of war, Paul and company learn about a ruin nearby used during the Napoleonic invasion of Russia, rumored to be haunted by the violent acts that took place there. As the German forces languish waiting for railway support, the company grows curious of the ruin and decides to explore it. They find that the horrors they encounter there are more difficult to escape than machine gun fire or a gas canister...
