This is a Sheaffer 46 Special Coral fountain pen, model R46C, c. 1926. This 5 5/16 inch long lever filling pen came in Coral and Black and in a shorter size with a choice of ringtop or clip. The trim is yellow gold filled. The nib is a semi-manifold gold nib stamped SHEAFFER over 46 over SPECIAL and was offered with a choice of extra fine, fine, medium, broad, posting and stub grades. The barrel is stamped W. A. SHEAFFER PEN CO. over PAT. AUG. 25 08 FORT MADISON, IA. U.S.A over DEC. 10 12 JAN. 27 - OCT 20 - NOV. 24 14. The barrel end is stamped F, indicating the Radite celluloid was made by the Fiberloid Corporation. A D stamping would indicate DuPont. A C would indicate the Celluloid Manufacturing Company, the originator of the trade name celluloid. This model sold for $5.00 in 1926.
