10. in general every time she makes the Angry Murder Face, aka proof that dan mora is one of the best artists in the comics for understanding that kim is just ready to fucking snap at all times

9. rmr kim’s family drama?  good times.  anyway this was such a good scene and so cathartic to read after all the bullshit that was put on kim’s shoulders for so long

8. sneaking out of the house to train because she really actually loves being a ranger showing that a+ character development and more of her urges to Kill, thank you marguerite for my life

honestly this entire story was a really, really good character piece for kim and i feel like it gets ignored most of the time!!!!!  

7. speaking of kim’s murderous urges is there anything more iconic than coinless kim absolutely Snapping and storming drakkon’s palace and making it all the way to his throne room without any powers or back up or anything????? the answer is no so don’t even try.  even drakkon thought it was hot so that counts for something

6. the reconciliation scene with tommy in shattered grid, bc we stan and respect emotional growth and maturity in this house!!!!!!!! (M/TT DO NOT INTERACT)

5. kim saving the people way back in issue #0!!!!!  setting the stage for how awesome and fantastic she is, and just a really clever usage of the pterodactyl zord in the first place.  anyone who says the pterodactyl zord is useless can eat socks

4. pictured: ranger slayer telling a deity to shut the fuck up.  that’s all you need to know

3. you guys know i’ll never shut the hell up about this scene everything about it is perfect.  and, again, proof the dragon shield looks best on pink

2. HA HAAAAA you didn’t think i would forget about PINK, did you???????  as soul-crushing as the story is there was no better feeling than kim leading her OWN TEAM and wielding the sword of light jason is shaking 

1. THIS SCENE RIGHT HERE PROBABLY THE MOST SATISFYING SCENE IN SHATTERED GRID we never got a scene where ranger slayer got to punch out drakkon so this was the absolute best compensation for it.  look at the COLORS and the COMPOSITION framing kim as biggest and most powerful compared to drakkon aka tiny dirt man.  i love it.  i love her sm

it’s time for another episode of Unironically Loving Tommy Oliver

10. Every time he makes This Face, aka the HELP I’M OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE OF KICKING AND PUNCHING THINGS HELP face, bc it’s adorable and i just like seeing the Super Serious Broody Boy flustered.  it adds to his charm

9. kind of going off that, i like this scene where tommy is fully aware of his idiocy just bc that kind of self-awareness, esp with Guys, is very rare and very satisfying to actually see.  also the mental image of him attacking a rhinoceros monster with only his dragon dagger is hilarious

8. and then going off of THAT we have this panel, just showing off how he’s the Goodest Boy for just CHECKING, just MAKING SURE that kim still wants to take things slow even after chasing him into an alley and making out with him.  he respects women more than anyone

7. HE’S TRYING HIS BEST TO BE A GOOD LEADER HE PROBABLY PRACTICED THAT SPEECH FOR AGES

6. okay i’ll admit i kinda cried when i saw this page for the first time bc MY BOY.....IT WAS THE FIRST TIME WE SAW HIM SINCE HE DIED and he was just as stupid as i remembered.  his literal reaction to seeing a dark power ranger with a deadly sword bow is “don’t call the cops please.”  idiot.  

5. i used this part of the scene in particular bc YAYY TEAMWORK but tbh any instance of tommy being a chaotic bastard during zord fights is so good 

4. tommy literally lies to zordon’s right hand to get him to send him and his gf on a cool date THE CHAOTIC ENERGY OF IT ALL.  also i just like this particular panel of him.  daniele’s style of drawing tommy, especially with that ponytail >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>  

3. honestly this entire fight scene was awesome (tommy being like GIANT METAL DRAGON THING I’M GONNA PUNCH IT) but this is the best part because he finally got the BFG he deserves

2. maybe one day i’ll shut up about this scene but tbh he deserves so many points for appearing out of nowhere after so many issues of awkwardness to be the smoothest motherfucker of all time.  he died and his friends were all rewritten to forget him he deserved a moment where the braincells worked and let him be smooth 

1. TOMMY OLIVER LOVES HIS FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!  both times where he tells drakkon to shut the fuck up are great but tbh i always liked this one from the first arc, since it’s such a pivotal moment in his character and more of an equal fight that the one in the shattered grid finale.  godspeed you funky little green dude

alright this is my reason for existing let’s DO THIS (under the cut bc covers are Too Big for tumblr text posts to handle)

#10: MMPR #26 - kinda like tommy’s death scene in the comic itself this cover causes me copious amounts of pain so I have to put it last on the list but it needed to be on the list just from the amounts of Iconic it is in fandom now.  also of all the Artistic Renderings of Tommy’s Death (of which there are many now, for some reason) this one tears me asunder the most (KIM’S FAAAAAAAAACE)

#9: Shattered Grid Finale - this one deserves mention just bc it’s probably the biggest image of kim with the dragon shield WHICH IS WHAT SHE DESERVED BUT SHE ALSO DESERVED MORE.  anyway this cover proves MMPR pink looks best with the dragon shield thank you good night.

#8: Pink #6 - i gotta admit i’m slightly bitter towards this cover because it’s adorable and precious and it didn’t prep me for the soul-crushing heartbreak that was Pink #6.  WHO’S IDEA WAS IT TO USE THIS COVER FOR PINK #6.  YOU SHOULD HAVE PUT A DISCLAIMER.  but i can’t hate it because look at them…..holding hands…..drinking from each others’ colored straws……the stupidly large amounts of hearts………they’re at peak babey on this cover

#7: 2016 Annual - it’s about the SYNCHRONIZATION of all the characters to pair together for a Fight Scene they chose tommy and kim and singlehandedly saved 2016

#6: i’m dumb and forget which variant this is I THINK IT’S MMPR #40 - the original pic was one of my favorites in the artist tribute and i was SO surprised to see it again as an official cover!  and now it’s even better bc it made it canon that kim and tommy to go comic-con together.  they won all the cosplay contests

#5: MMPR #41 - okay can you imagine anything funnier than tommy printing out poster-sized prints of his girlfriend (INCLUDING one of her morphed) JUST to hang up in his robot tiger.  and then drawing a giant heart on one in sharpee.  you can’t.  and that’s why this cover is fantastic

#4: GGPR #12 - on record as the hottest tomberly cover STEP ON ME MISS SLAYERRRRR oh and drakkon looks pretty cool too i guess.  anyway this is the only legit slayer/drakkon cover in the series and that’s a bit of a crime against me so i gotta hype this one up as much as possible

#3: GGPR #22 - i absolutely ADORE the amount of story and personality this cover packs into just a single image.  tommy not knowing social media.  kim taking a surprise picture of him just to mess with him, which he still chose to make as his first post despite looking completely stupid in it.  kim having to declare herself as first comment WITH HEARTS.  it just says so much about their dynamic in a small package and i could analyze it all day.  bonus jason being a stupid gay  

#2: GGPR #21 reprint - trivia: the first time i saw this cover i literally went SERIOUSLY?????????? out loud.  boom went straight for my jugular by taking the kiss page, which was already great, and then slapping it on a cover with full-on angelic lighting.  god herself approves of tomberly and it’s the only thing keeping me strong throughout this current matt nonsense  

#1: MMPR #1 - where were you when you first saw this cover.  i was in my dorm room and saw this in a post, and assumed this was fan art until i found out it was an OFFICIAL APPROVED BY SABAN CANON COVER and my soul was officially sold to the comics forever.  cut ahead three years later to me vibrating with joy when i realized the same guy who did this cover was now writing for GGPR!!!!!!!  so in short this cover is just very special to me and it was a dream to talk about it personally with sina grace himself.  to this day i’m amazed at the amount of soap opera romance and peak tomberly chaotic energy that is stuffed into this single image

you are.......EVIL but we’re doing this (in two parts because otherwise this post would be so long it would probably break tumblr’s code even more than it already is)

so part one: top ten tv show tomberly moments

10. everything with white stranger/kim in Wild West Rangers - i put this at number ten bc it’s technically not. tomberly it’s kim/tommy’s ancestor but i needed to put it on this list bc i find it a little hilarious that ajj played up kim being so horny for white stranger.  i mean jdf did look pretty hot in cowboy gear so i can’t really blame her.  also white stranger at the end implying that kim was the best part about the whole power ranger situation is [chef kiss] peak lost time travel romance

9. island of illusion - ok this episode was mostly wack but them freaking out over the other possibly vanishing forever is tragic romance angst that we really don’t see in power rangers too often so i gotta take it when i can get it.  key moments include tommy literally shoving zack and jason out of the way to get to kim and after tommy comes back from almost vanishing, kim runs to him first and rubs his chest.

8. fighting date in two for one - THEY LIKE……DID A DANCE……DURING A FIGHT……..BECAUSE THE FIGHT HAPPENED WHILE THEY WERE ON A DATE THEY’RE SO DUMB 

7. the beginning of calamity kim - yeah it’s kind of a “damsel in distress” ep which like……isn’t great but they were BOTH kind of in distress the whole ep so it makes it a little better.  the best part though is the beginning where kim is like. doing terribly and is an angry wet rat and tommy’s only response is :) aw <3 which is hilarious and also genuinely sweet.  also his braincells activate for a second and gives him an actual smooth line (“you know anything could happen”  “i’ll take my chances ;)”) so we gotta give him a little credit. 

6. song of guitardo - OKAY SCREW EVERYONE WHO SAYS TOMMY TURNED KIM INTO A DAMSEL SHE SAVED HIS DUMB ASS IN THIS EPISODE IT WAS GREAT.  actually they saved each other and that’s even better.  but we got the dragon dagger/power bow combo which is a never before seen iconic moments in power rangers and also would lead to the dragon shield pink/shooting drakkon in the chest 25 years later which changed the face of comics as we know it   

5. when is a ranger not a ranger? - so okay “love interest’s mind is wiped but they still like their love interest” is a cliche that power rangers doesn’t do very often despite all the crazy mind stuff, but tomberly did it first and they did it awesomely.  mostly because tommy was so stupid about it.  “do you know who i am?”  “i don’t have a clue but you sure are cute” did you really think that was clever tommy.  he picks her up and tosses her like a football to save her from the laser beam later.  i hate him actually.  but actually it’s okay because it made it canon that tommy thought kim was cute immediately after seeing her which adds more context to certain beats in their first meeting SPEAKING OF WHICH 

4. their first meeting in green with evil - for real i don’t think tommy and kim would be so popular so long after MMPR if ajj and jdf didn’t play them up so well and their first meeting set the tone for that SO well.  kim was barely holding herself back from jumping him in the middle of that hallway.  tommy very clearly being like oh shit the girl i just saved is actually really cute oh shit oh fuck (again, made canon by wiarnar).  them continuing to hold hands after they shake.  tommy very clearly looking her up and down.  jdf and ajj hit the ground running with this scene and we stan 

3. first kiss in the green candle - SO YEAH I HAD TO HAVE THIS ON HERE not just because of the kiss but like. the lead up to it is so good.  the context of kim wanting to assure tommy that he’s still wanted by the team (her) and stumbling through a somewhat awkward but sweet conversation??  “we miss you/i miss you” - poetic cinema.  tommy taking her hand and rubbing his thumb across his palm - need me a freak like that 

2. hospital scene in a different shade of pink - this scene was really kinda lowkey in turns of actual romance but it’s so good in terms of how mature and serious it was taken.  tommy revealing he was actually scared at her getting hurt- TOMMY THE SUPER COOL WHITE RANGER MAN?  SCARED? - and saying it was worse than literally ANYTHING zedd and rita did….which, it’s tommy.  he’s been through a lot of shit.  but kim getting hurt was the worst.  tommy brushing his fingers through her hair while they just smile at each other and not saying anything.  bro.

1. THE END OF CHANGING OF THE ZORDS PART THREE okay listen all of changing of the zords was god-tier tomberly but the final scene of the three-parter, where tommy and kim are walking along the beach and tommy assures kim that she’ll be okay  is literally perfect in narrative and execution.  acknowledging the bond between tommy and kim that’s strengthened by bringing the parallel between tommy losing his green powers and now kim losing her pink powers???  her being vulnerable and honestly upset after putting on a brave face for the entire story and tommy being gently but firmly comforting???  IT’S ON A BEACH AT SUNSET AND THERE’S KISSING IT’S EVERYTHING A ROMANCE SCENE SHOULD BE

If AJJ hadn't left the show, how would you have wanted tomberly's relationship to develop in season 4?

the whole season is a wedding planning session - kidding (mostly)

i’m ngl i actually wouldn’t mind a temporary breakup as the two realize that it’s almost the end of their time in angel grove and they need some time by themselves to figure out what to do about the future.  so like...probably a little more “grown-up” than what power rangers was capable of at the time, but some acknowledgment that the idyllic high school romance was almost done and they needed to think about what can happen next would have been fun to see.  in the perfect timeline ultimately at the end they decide they do want to try and stay together and kim still leaves to do the pan globals.  and tommy probably goes with bc fuck if we know what he was doing after high school and lbr if jdf left after mmpr like he wanted they would have had them leave together

Hange and Levi haven’t really bickered or fought at all this season...and what we did get was pretty true to the series.

I mean, I get the shipping desires--wanting more than what we got in the manga. But when it’s just as good...I don’t understand it.

I mean, I wanted more shipping stuff: like the biggest thing on my wishlist this season was that the rooftop scene between Mike and Nanaba would be skewed a little more shippy than in the manga. However, I basically got the opposite of that... Not only was it cut short, the mood was drastically altered so the end result was emotionless and robotic. A scene I always felt was incredibly important to the entire series was not considered important at all by the animation studio. :( I’m still disappointed.

But I’m happy with the levihan since what we got pretty much matches (or is better than) the manga.
