But as social media exploded over the past decade, he got addicted like the rest of us -- trying to gain followers and likes only to be left feeling inadequate and less creative. In a refreshingly honest talk, he explores how the attention-driven model of big tech companies impacts our creativity -- and shares a more powerful feeling than getting attention: paying attention.

Odd that I’m sharing this here, a space to post your own works where it can hopefully garner more attention. Still, it’s quite a timely reminder that instead of getting attention, it’s time that we focused more on paying attention.

I'm late for the asks memes, but: Rhodendron: What is something you used to believe in as a child?

Oh gosh, there are so many. Hahaha.I used to believe we’re rich, in the purely material sense. We had a car and a relatively big house. It makes me smile now, since the car is now 20 years old and our family home is starting to show its age. Material things rarely do make a person truly “rich.”I also used to believe that I’d be a stay-at-home mom, like my mother, literally managing the household. Now I’m working a regular job with a few side projects here and there and actively taking care of my daughter AND managing the household and it’s exhausting. I don’t know how my mother did it.Anyway, on to sillier things. Hmm. I used to believe (or think?) that concrete will melt when it got wet. Like when ice got exposed to heat. That’s what I thought of puddles. That the concrete was melting. HAHAHAHA.Thanks for dropping by, ali! Much love.

I posted this more than a year ago now, my first Promnis fic, and it remains to be one of my favorites. Not just because I think it's actually one of my better works (slow burn in just 1,000+ words!), but also because of the comment below.

They already deleted their account and I already forgot their name (I'm sorry!), but this comment made me realize the hidden depths and meanings of a fic that a reader can pick up beyond what the author intended. It's amazing, it's beautiful, and I continue to be awed.

100,000+ Words

I rarely check the stats page on my AO3, so I only just realized that with my latest fic (and my first for 2019), I just broke 100,000 words.

It may not be much -- there are many out there who've written 100,000 words with just one multi-chapter fic; it took me 40+ works to do it -- but it means a lot to me. That number is a symbol of me overcoming (a bit of) my self-doubt and it's a testament of how words can bridge gaps and spark beginnings.

Here's to more words this 2019! Thank you, whoever you are, who have read and continue to read and appreciate whatever I write.
