I love Jack's crazy family because you definitely get the sense that he was a bit of a bocchama as a kid but without all of the snobbery

Like his parents were just these eccentric rich people with an eccentric kid

You get the feeling that he would have turned into a funny rival for Dump eventually if his parents hadn't died

Just imagine up tight, closed off, stuck up Dump, paying smart people to make his plans come to fruition (not anything to be looked down upon as the kid does know how to make use of resources) versus overly familiar, boisterous, natural genius Jack who comes up with his own crazy schemes

The two of them could have these competitions against one another over who can fend off a Kaitou challenge

Jack's parents are in the background like, oh I'm so glad Jack made another friend and gush over Dump and Jack when they meet up to antagonize each other in the form of hang outs and sleep overs

Jack's house is the battleground and his parents are the neutral mediators who laugh as large sections of their grounds and mansion fall victim to strange inventions and wild behavior

jhgfkdh this is the most beautiful thing i cannot believe i never considered this

one of those “they’d be a terrifying duo if they’d stop fighting for like two seconds” sorts of people 

imagine what they’re like at parties, though. it’s a bunch of rich people at a high-class party and suddenly there’s a screech and here comes jack, laughing maniacally, chased by a red-faced dump. they’re both yelling and very poorly-behaved and jack’s parents are just laughing. please control your child

don't ask how, shruggaroo, I guess maybe Queen becomes more independent and critical without Jack to lean on for the brains portion of their plans as kids and the whole boat jacking happens anyways?

like this is before Jack even would have met Dump so Jack grows up ignorant of the whole thing but King still occasionally steals shit from Dump? Sibling harassment?

So Jack and King have this weird rivalry thing still going on except it's now them on opposite sides of the challenge rather than competing to be first to the goal

and Dump is just over here with weird hangups about family but they've been softened away from the homicidal edge by Jack and his crazy parents

so he's figured out who Kaitou Spade is, but mostly keeps his abandonment issues on the down low around Jack, and is really on the fence about bringing Jack into his whole revenge scheme considering how Jack is

btw Jack is still a crazy hoarder who buys random shit that catches his attention with the money he makes off of his patents. His parents ruffle his hair and praise him about how smart he is and build him a basement the size of their house once over as a birthday present for his 13th birthday

Jack is still mildly sociopathic as well, except this time his parent complex is like times 10???

Don't touch this kid's parents; he only has mild compunctions about killing criminals

so does dump still go through with the whole devil fang thing? you said he still has a revenge scheme but he isn’t homicidal about it anymore. if he does go through with it, does jack know and how does he react? i want to know More about this dynamic

god that basement must be such a mess, considering what his treasure room is like. does he work down there or does he do it in his bedroom or a garage or? has he ever accidentally blown up part of the house? 

mild compunctions lol has someone actually tried to go after jack’s parents before?

@raifiel our last conversation reminded me of this but i’ve always liked the idea that jack’s parents were retired(?) phantom thieves themselves which is why they always encouraged his behavior and his dad was so intent on “if you challenge then it’s different from stealing”

and like even if they hadn’t died he still would have become a phantom thief anyway

Oh yeah, Dump still goes through with the Devil Fang thing. He's not interested as much in seeing them all dead as he is in locking them all up so that King can't run away from him anymore. Jack really doesn't have much of an idea about what's going on, considering his baseline ability to empathize with others, but he does know that Dump has been more volatile than he has been in a long time

Jack only really gets pulled in at the climax when the "meteor" is revealed and Dump consults with him on potential plans for how to deal with it. He attends the conference with everyone and gets pulled into the debauchle from there

He has a lot of choice words to say to Dump about how unhealthy this all is and ends up sabotaging a lot of stuff in order to get Dump to talk to his brother, goddammit

Also Dump doesn't binge eat as much as he does in the main storyline, he is still a workout fanatic. He tries to draw Jack into it, kicking and screaming, and so despite his best efforts to the contrary, Jack does manage to build up a physique

(Jack only keeps up with it because getting out of breath after two blocks would really hinder his pranking abilities)

And yes, Jack works in the basement. He's built some solar lights and created a greenhouse for his dad, who is an avid gardener in his off hours, which takes up a certain amount of room, but for the most-part, he has a good 2 acres of space to work and hoard

Also yes, to get around, you do have to use a bunch of secret doors and switches and you may feel like you went up at one point only to end up somewhere lower HOW DOES THAT BOY DO THAT

And of course people have gone after Jack's parents who are rich collectors who live in a house with minimal security, Jack and his dad have lots of fun

The police keep those reports in a special place so they can read them on at the end of a really long week lol

jack, of course, is used to sabotaging everything dump does. at least it’s productive this time. does he still meet akai, then? or is it spade that ends up in space? what’s jack’s opinion on dr. neo?

a series of underground tunnels and elevators and all manner of hidden passages take people to different rooms of the house. spade has an interesting experience trying to figure out where the treasure room is. dump insists on holding meetings upstairs if he can bc the whole system is just that confusing.

i feel like they have an alarm system but like by the time the police get there the thief is strung up by his toes and tied up in rainbow fairy lights and jack’s family is just cheerfully eating dinner

I like to think that Akai ends up meeting Jack because Jack was totally working on the excavation of the Egyptian tomb with Dump

so Jack starts getting super interested in these treasures that Akai is going after and essentially inserts himself into security for heists

He doesn't even get permission he is just THERE. Kaneari hates these kids

The relationship is a little more 'both sides interested in challenging each other' than the anime one, because Jack is bored goddamnit, and he will find out how the fuck Akai's tricks work

I cant really say how the final showdown would happen, because without Joker, the other Kaitous would inevitably be much more involved with the whole ancient treasure thing, but I would like to think that Jack gets to go to space lol

akai gets released and flies away into the night as dump and his team all watch silently, and then from somewhere back in the tunnel is jack’s voice at top volume “DUMP OH MY GOD DID YOU SEE THAT WHAT WAS THAT”

i mean he does his job so can kaneari really complain? he’s just particularly invested in akai

i also want jack to be able to go to space lol

Secretly, rather than trapping Santa, Jack is hoping to trap his dad when he pretends to be Santa, now that Jack knows his dad is willing and able to get up there
