So we start off with 1020 or at the time he used his real name Dane, built in 1883, he can’t remember his exact birthday but he does remember it being hot so sometime in the summer. He worked in many parts of England and beloved by all, he was friendly, cheerful, happy and full of hope for his kind's future. Even as he got older, he never let that dampen his spirits, he stayed determined through it all. In the 1910's he was bought into Sodor by Sir Topham Hat the II and worked on a small line near a beautiful shimmering lake and thick green trees. His driver, Bailey Johnson, who had worked this line for a while now, was his best and pretty much only friend, sure engines would come to work on his line but only for a small while while STH figured out what to do with these new engines. Dane became somewhat bitter, seeing all his friends being taken from him one by one, except for one, Hawin, Hawin was brought to help Dane during his old age in the 40's. Dane would constantly have boiler troubles and needed his help, but Dane insisted he was still useful. It all came spiralling down when he fell into the lake in 1953, he was 70 years old and was stuck in that lake until 1955 as the line didn’t have much funding. Hawin couldn’t look at the lake during that time. Dane's soul had been comatose for 9 months and when he woke up he was still in the lake. He thought he was still alive but he quickly realised he was flying! He looked around and saw himself, his rusty body in the water. Dane was mortified and stirred something deep within him, a deep psychosis episode that seemed to last forever. His vision began to swirl, his nails turned to jet black, he began to smile and laugh as he fell into the water again, making a splash that reached the supernatural and living world. Dane could feel his mind and sanity slipping away but couldn’t do anything about it, his death was all that he could think about, how no one came to save him, how he was left in this lake for God knows how long, not even his own goddess came. She did ask him if he wished to stay in the Magic Railway but he refused, he needed to go back, to save his passengers, and himself, but he doesn’t remember this, no one that chooses to stay does. 1020 could no longer think of himself as Dane, only his number that was still visible through the water. His mind was wracked with all sorts of emotions, rage, despair, mania, and most of all, vengeance, he wanted to get revenge on everyone around him, how could they all leave him and live their lives like their innocent? Innocence is ignorance he thought, and for years he went about the island, mastering his new found power, lurking in the minds of his victims, using their greatest fears against them, making them go insane and killing themselves. It was a joy for 1020, finally he had control except for one, he had been saving dessert for last, Hawin, his “best friend” was still working on the line and he too was wracked with emotions, grief, guilt and shame. 1020 saw that Hawin knew the buffers we’re broken but told no one. 1020 vowed to make him pay but not just yet, he’d bide his time, watching him, studying him, seeing if he didn’t have to do anything but Hawin never broke, he stayed silent for years. So 1020 had enough, and in 1998 he made his move (Go watch Railspin Splitspace on YouTube!). After they both moved on together, 1020 could finally rest.
