Rainbow Mountains, Zhang Ye, Gan Su, China.
The Rainbow Mountains contain several areas that are connected by shuttle buses that take you from one place to another. The deeper you venture the more brilliant the sight. From pale turquoise to bright red, all the colors merge into one, forming a myriad of distinct patterns. Some of the formations even have names, such as the Great Wall, a long line of brick like stones, the Scallop Rocks, curved into elegant shell shaped figures, the Flaming Dragon, a stripe of flaming red against a dull yellow background, and the Potala Palace, an almost exact resemblance of the marble white fixture.
Science has proven that the colors of the mountains are created by calcium and metal that existed in the pieces of sandstone when wind and gravitational forces brought them together. Yet, when you stand amidst it all with the wind dancing through your hair and the majestic mountain peaks standing behind you, everything feels just a bit magical.
