I just really hope they don't take away any of the thing I love about Darktail. Like I don't believe Smoke was a bad mother to him but her justified hate of Onestar and the clans as a whole must of rubbed off a little on Darktail to get him the idea in the first place. Like I want some more nuance, like he clearly loved his mother but at the same time his mother could be sad he turned out the way he did despite loving him. I find it so interesting how Darktail never once brings up his mother even when he could of used it to maniplulate others into sympathizing with him more (like hawkwing and that story he told about the friend that died in the snow).
I just dont want his book to miss these interesting things. I love how evil he is while also having relationships he genuinely cares about, like he actually looked sad when hawkwing rejected him. He has people he wants as friends like Rain until they interfere with his plans and I find it interesting and refreshing to have a villain whos still so evil but has the capacity to care to an extent .
I love Darktail so much I could go on and on about him. I hope the team still loves him as much as when they first wrote him.

You can most bad mouth your shitty ex and not want or anticipate your child turning into a murderer, and hopefully the Erins realise this lol. And I really hope for Smoke she is just a normal person and not the stereotypical warrior cats perfect mother doomed to die nor an evil plotting mastermind grooming her son to take revenge for her. I want her to be flawed and shit talk her ex and maybe be a little too forgiving with her son yet horrified at what he’s become.
The interpretation I personally took from Onestar’s Confession regarding Darktail’s behaviour, is that he was dealt a bad hand at the start of life and always blamed his father for not taking him in for his and Smoke’s circumstances, rather than take any accountability for himself.
For example growing up, not liking being a kittypet? Dads fault. Therefore him mauling a child was dad’s fault. Therefore him becoming homeless again was dad’s fault. Therefore Smoke getting run over was dad’s fault. Even though him mauling a child then becoming homeless and Smoke getting run over were all his choices or due to them. I think to Darktail every single bad thing that has ever happened to him or because of him he blames entirely on his father for not taking him and his mother into WindClan.
Darktail is so interesting to me for many reasons but one of them also is how he does seem to seek out genuine connections like you say. The Kin is a terrible attempt at fulfilling this but an attempt nonetheless. And I genuinely believe that he thought killing Sharpclaw would have established a true friendship with Hawkwing. He was nothing more than his own estranged dad dead, why would Hawkwing not want the same with his own father he’s having issues with?
I love Darktail so much too lol. Since he’s the new team’s own character I truly hope they have a good grasp on him and totally justify giving him an SE.
