Since (pretty sure) no one can disprove this, and in quasi-celebration of Pride Month, I’m headcanoning that Onyx The Fortuitous, Slayer Of The Bright Realm is both Autistic & Asexual!

From the way he interacts with people and is extremely passionate about what he likes to a very thorough degree, I instantly related to him (being autistic myself).

Seriously, there were points in the movie where he was talking and making references to people that made sense to him, leaving everyone else kinda confused, and I was just sittin’ there like “oh my god…I do that” or “is this what it’s like when I try to interact with people?”

He’s socially awkward and straight forward, but if you get him going about his special interests or relate to him on some level, he’ll talk your ears off (something else I’m extremely familiar with).

Plus, his little vocal ticks seem very neurodivergent to me.

And I believe he might be asexual but just doesn’t realise it (also something I could relate to). Yes, he is shown to have private fantasies and gets upset over speculation regarding his virginity, but nowhere in the movie do we see him cozying up to anyone in any way that isn’t purely friendly. Also, for those unaware, some asexuals do experience forms of sexual desire and fantasies. Spectrums, baby.

And I’d say there tends to be a bit more pressure on men and a certain ridicule concerning their virginity, so he more than likely feels embarrassed for those reasons also. It may not necessarily be that he feels like he just can’t seem to quote-un-quote ‘lose it’ yet, but rather that he may not have any interest and doesn’t consciously think about it until someone else brings it up.

Even at the end when Farrah heavily implies a sexual union by him joining with her, he doesn’t immediately spring for the obvious answer. He guesses something more tame before she has to specify that there’d be sex involved. This could just be him getting shy or something, but I see it more as Onyx not feeling strongly about engaging in intimacy (particularly with someone that he probably doesn’t feel strongly towards). He’s kinda the same in the musical sequence, if I’m recalling correctly (where Farrah even goes as far(rah) as taking on the image of his personal fantasy to further coax him to her side - and it still doesn’t work).

Onyx The Fortuitous, Slayer Of The Bright Realm (as played by Andrew Bowser) from the movie Onyx The Fortuitous & The Talisman Of Souls (2023) is Autistic & Asexual. And he probably doesn’t even realise this.

Okay, just saw Onyx The Fortuitous & The Talisman Of Souls…

It was awesome!

I’m not the most familiar with Andrew Bowser, having only seen a few of his videos, but knowing that Jeffrey Combs and even Barbara Crampton were involved, I just had to check it out. And, uh, yeah! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Initially it took a little bit to really click with the humour, but once I did, everything else flowed quite nicely.

If you haven’t seen it, I implore you to check it out. It’s funny, has practical effects (reminded me of Labyrinth or even Black Roses at times), good pacing, great cinematography, tons of winks/nods and the dramatic moments actually hit you (seriously, the flashback and last usage of Somewhere Out There got me). I appreciate that the movie does what it wants. You might be able to guess some things here and there, but with its humour especially, it just does whatever the hell suits it. Kinda reminded me of Dead & Breakfast that way (go check that out too, if you’re so inclined - two words: zombie. musical.). Onyx was such a good time that clearly had so much passion go into it. That alone deserves all the recognition.

Plus, if you’re an Andrew Bowser fan, you’ll get plenty of enjoyment. Not to mention if you’re a Jeffrey Combs lover like I am! 🖤💚❤️ I love that his character was essentially a take-off of Anton LaVey. And the conclusion of him had me leaping and clapping with excitement. If you know, you know. Right down to the exact shots! Gotta say too that you best be thankful the sets are big and grand, because Jeffrey Combs is absolutely devouring that scenery!

Also, that work-out moment. AMAZING. If you know, you know. And I know that I loved that moment and it just makes me adore Jeffrey Combs even more. You go, sir!

Anyway, you reading this, go watch the film and share it around! It was independently financed and, even though it’s left theatres, exposure is always a great idea!

I have a sneaking suspicion that they gave Billy that overly complicated, busy-work, crime-stopper-or-whatever job in the third Beverly Hills Cop movie as a front to keep Billy and his guns off the street.

I mean, think about it: Taggart’s not in the picture (for whatever reason - did they even give an explanation in the movie? I don’t recall). My theory is that he either retired or got reassigned or something, and that left Billy to his own devices. From there, he ran amuck. He was probably dishing out heavily-armed justice left and right, scaring everyone with his guy liner, so the higher ups in charge decided to get him (and his guns) off the street by handing him a cushy office job so he remains contained and compliant.

They know how…out there he is.

I’m yet to be presented with a better explanation. The movie sure as hell wasn’t giving one.

((Also if they do end up making a fourth film, unless it’s called Beverly Hills Cop IV: We Need To Talk About Billy, I’m not listening))

A Quick Ace Discussion/Ramble

Around age 19, I discovered other kids around my year were doing the sexah stuff at like age 15.

This blew my goddamn mind

When I was 15, I was staying at home mainly collecting music and making videos and trying to write stories and obsessing over people that don’t exist.

Honestly not much has changed since then.

But it should have been an indicator that I was Ace, cause I sure as hell didn’t understand why they were interested in that stuff back then. I was like “15? Is that normal? I wasn’t aware people cared about the sexah stuff at that age. I was back there trying to write a Hades & Persephone type story that I STILL HAVEN’T FINISHED and you guys were up to any kind of stuff??” Not shaming, just surprised.

I didn’t find out I was Ace until a couple years after I’d already left school. Never had a boyfriend, no significant crushes and always plagued with the thoughts that I was basically a late bloomer. I remember trying to force myself to see guys (actors) that I liked more attractive than I actually found them. I thought something was wrong with me back then.

And then I made the shocking discovery.

It was kinda scary at first. I didn’t know what to make of it. I almost didn’t want it, because I’d never heard of it before.

Knowledge about all the different types of sexualities (not just Asexuality) should be spread far and wide. LGBTQ+ is vitally important. Not just for the people who belong with it, but also those who plain ol’ don’t understand it.

Even if you aren’t a part of this community, you should still be informed about it on some level.

I’m still largely uneducated about it, but every time I look into it I learn something new.

Not to mention, when I found out I was Ace, I was fiercely looking up everything that I could about it. And I’m just lucky that I have an awesome Mum who supports me and doesn’t treat my sexuality as something that isn’t valid. Because it is valid. I am valid. You are valid. We are all bloody valid. No one can say otherwise. My dad on the other hand seems unaware of my sexuality. He’s seen the posters I have up at my place, I know he has. But he never brings it up or shows interest. He doesn’t want to know. He doesn’t want to understand it because it’s not what he’s used to.

But on the whole, I’ve been incredibly lucky with my Mum. And it breaks my heart that other people aren’t as fortunate to have that support.

Actually, kinda funny story, I remember when I was a teen my Mum asked me about whether or not I found Hugh Jackman to be attractive. I thought that to be a weird question in general to ask - I’d grown up with X-Men & Van Helsing after all, so there was a kind of nostalgic connection that made the very idea of finding him overtly attractive really bizarre. Nevertheless, I answered “sure, I guess.” My Mum looked at me and amusedly went “are you sure you’re not gay?”

NOPE I’m all points in between!

But seriously, even though I haven’t interacted with the Ace/LGBTQ+ community a whole lot, the little I have has been very positive and welcoming. And I haven’t come across any people who shame my sexuality or insist it’s a myth or something.

Darlin’, if my sexuality a myth then it’s gonna be a dragon! (I am a dragon, by the way, just wanna throw that out there).

Therefore, I am Ace. I am Valid. And I am many other things that no one can take away from me.
