Dean awoke with a start as the high pitched cry shattered his dreams. Too bad it was a good one, whatever it was now. With a low groan, the sandy blond reached over and lowered the volume on the baby monitor that rested on his night stand. Apparently his shift had already started.
"Alright buddy, I'm comin'," he muttered as he forced himself to toss back the warm and soft blankets to slide free. Quietly he padded to the nursery and pushed the door open, flicking the light on to be able to see.
Dean maneuvered around the dresser and the rocking chair to get to the crib. "Come here, chief. Where's the emergency," he murmured as he picked up his wailing son. The ex-hunter didn't even need to be fully awake for this anymore. It was pretty much muscle memory.
A quick check of the diaper indicated that it was part of the problem. That one was no brainer, considering it was four in the morning. He put Bobby on the changing table and went through the motion until the boy was clean and a bit less fussy. Dean picked him up and went to the kitchen, fixing a bottle before he sat on the couch.
The man was tired, that much was obvious. Who knew his apple pie life would leave him just as exhausted as hunting did? Between his job at the garage down the street, taking care of Bobby and keeping their new house clean and proper--there was just so much to do and little time. He was constantly going from place to place, either with or without the car seat, and always constant lists for different stores.
Though, despite the bags under his eyes, the almost constant crik in his neck, and feeling as if he aged ten extra years...he loved it. Cas never heard a single complaint come from the once Righteous Man.
As his son fed, Dean watched the sun through the curtained windows rise. A faint smile appeared on his face while he leaned back into the couch a bit further. That very smile grew as someone came up behind him to brush their faintly chapped lips against his cheek, "Happy Father's Day, Dean."
It was official: Dean was living the life he wanted. And he couldn't be happier.
