Vikramaditya Motwane's 'Udaan' is a film, that lingers your memory, and gives you the hope to live your dreams. The film has everything going for it, it has a touching story, proficient performances, hummable music & striking direction. It's A Winner All The Way! Rajat Barmecha stars as Rohan, who, after being abandoned for eight straight years in boarding school, returns to the industrial city of Jamshedpur and finds himself closeted with an authoritarian father and a younger half brother who he didn't even know existed. And amongst them, sitting quietly in a corner is his younger brother Arjun – who doesn't speak much, yet wins your heart. 'Udaan' is an inspiring story. Screenplay by Motwane & Anurag Kashyap is brilliant. Their protagonist, is not a passive one, he has a goal, that of becoming a writer, which has been stabbed by his authoritarian father. The Screenplay allows it's Hero to get courage in himself. It starts superbly, and continues it's momentum to the end. Motwane's direction is great as well. The Cinematography is able. Amit Trivedi's Music is hummable. The Editing is killer. The movie on its own is enlightening because it shows us how to break free- to spread your wings and fly away. The kind of ones which you have to experience yourself. Udaan is one such for me. By far one of the best films Indian Cinema has ever made. The movie gives a brilliant take on an adolescent who has stepped into his teens and how he faces a tyrannical father, a step brother he never knew existed and how he eventually breaks the shackles and frees himself from a world that's slowly suffocating him. Gem of a screenplay from Motwane and Kashyap, closer to life acting from Rajat Barmecha and Ronit Roy( who has portrayed one of the best negative characters we've ever had with such finesse), quite an exceptional soundtrack from Amit Trivedi (who was then trying to establish himself in the industry) and masterclass direction from Motwane in his directorial debut. Got an opportunity to meet this talented actor @barmecharajat at the screening of his film #Udaan and watched it on 16mm in his presence last friday!
