EMC Study unveils the willingness of Indian Businesses
The Information Generation: Transforming The Future, a new study by EMC has explored the impact of a growing global community of digital citizens. These individuals are always connected and engaged online, and have the world’s information at their fingertips. Based on input from 3,600 Director-to-C-Suite business leaders across 18 countries, the study reveals new expectations of these individuals and identifies the fundamental business attributes critical for organizations to successfully compete and thrive in this new landscape.
The Survey said that globally nearly 96 per cent business leaders believe new technologies have forever changed the rules of business. In addition, 93 per cent reported that recent technology advancements are resetting customer expectations, and nearly all say this will accelerate over the next decade. The top reported consumer expectations are faster access to services, 24/7 and “everywhere” access and connectivity, access on more devices, and a more unique personalized experience.
In line with the global response, 76 per cent of businesses in India think that the mega trends of SMAC have changed consumer expectations. 86 per cent of Indian businesses are aware of the importance of predicatively spotting new opportunities to get ready for the “Information Generation”.

India's "Digital Information Pile" is continuously mounting: EMC
EMC Corporation has announced results of the EMC-sponsored IDC Digital Universe study, "Big Data, Bigger Digital Shadows, and Biggest Growth in the Far East - India", which revealed that the digital universe in India will grow 23-fold between 2012 and 2020. The digital bits captured or created each year in India are expected to grow from 127 EB to 2.9 ZB between 2012 and 2020.
India’s digital information explosion is being driven by proliferation of devices such as PCs and smartphones worldwide, increased Internet access within emerging markets and the boost in data from machines such as surveillance cameras or smart meters. Other contributing factors include increasing machine-to-machine communication (M2M), falling cost of technology, and digitization of TV, among others. Over time, the distribution of the bits within the digital universe by the country of origin will more and more closely mirror the distribution of population.
Rajesh Janey, President, EMC India and SAARC, said, “India’s digital transformation is happening at a rapid pace exposing gaps in technology investments that exist in enterprises today. These gaps exist in all aspects of digital information management, including storing, securing, managing and deriving value through analytics. It is largely due to a piecemeal approach as against an integrated roadmap.”
He further added, “Less than half a per cent of the digital information is analyzed today; businesses and governments need to recognize this and invest in understanding and tapping it.....See More
Storage Services at an Unprecedented Scale
EMC Corporation has announced that Tulip Telecom will provide end-to-end managed on-demand storage services and Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) using EMC unified storage and backup and recovery technologies from the Tulip Data City in Bangalore.
Tulip’s cloud-based storage and backup service offerings are powered by EMC’s VNX unified storage, EMC Avamar and EMC Data Domain technologies for storage and backup and recovery, enabling Tulip to offer enterprises managed services to address the growing complexities related to storage and backup of data.
Rajesh Janey, President, EMC India & SAARC, said, “More and more enterprises are adopting a hybrid cloud model – choosing to manage mission-critical applications in-house while allowing other applications to be managed externally. Enterprises in India are also demanding the need for storage and backup to be delivered through the cloud, to offload their challenges of managing them in-house. The scale of Tulip’s cloud-based, on-demand storage and backup offerings is the only one of its kind in India, and will provide a differentiated approach to storage, while delivering the choice, control, flexibility, and cost efficiencies of cloud that are required by today's IT organization.”
