Cupping therapy, known as "Raktamokshana" or "Alabu" in Ayurveda, is an ancient healing practice used to balance the body's doshas (biological energies) by detoxifying and improving blood flow. Methods and Procedure
Dry Cupping (Sukha Alabu): Cups are placed on the skin without bloodletting, and used for muscle pain and stiffness. Wet Cupping (Rakta Mokshana): Small incisions are made before placing cups to draw out blood, removing toxins and enhancing circulation. Massage Cupping (Samvahana): Cups are moved over oiled skin, combining massage benefits with cupping to relieve muscle tension and improve lymphatic flow.
The treatment begins with a consultation to determine dosha imbalances. Cups are placed on the skin and suction is created, typically leaving them for 5-20 minutes. Post-treatment care involves cleaning the area and sometimes applying herbal ointments.
