plothole on ralph’s death: solved. a theory
ralph died in a construction accident before carrie was born. right?
however, margaret says that ralph was the one to stop her from killing carrie as a baby.
carrie herself says that margaret had to start working after the insurance on ralph ran out. insurance is mentioned twice-in that quote, and by estelle talking about how both ralph and the house were insured.
my theory is that they FAKED RALPH’S DEATH for insurance money.
think about it. the whites are already poor (margaret atwood’s 50th anniversary introduction parallels the white name with white trash). they need cash.
they cook up this scheme-ralph gets “injured,” and margaret gets his death insurance cash.
after the incident of margaret nearly killing carrie as a baby, ralph leaves-hence the movie discrepancy is solved, and the rage can happen.
