So I read Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire! Some thoughts:

This is actually a reread I originally read it when I was waaaay too young

Throuple ahead of its time really

All the sex stuff was definitely weird to me when I was young but with so much fanfiction under my belt it was way less scandalous than I remember. And not as well written.

Yeah that includes the tiger scene I’ve read furry visual novels what do you want from me

I think Fiyero should be Black? Or did I read that wrong?? I feel like they described him a few times as ‘dark skinned’? But I think one time it said ‘diamond skinned’ (?) but like… if that had been the case I’d think more people would bring up the white washing in the musical/movie

They only spend like…half of the book in school. I haven’t seen the musical or movie yet. But because the length of the movie I wonder if we’ll get them outside of school more

I hope so mostly because the people complaining about the ages of the actresses need to be quiet

I like Elphaba. But I feel like her spiraling at the end seemed rushed. Because it’s her story; I wish we had gotten more time in her perspective.

Elphaba and Galinda were in LOVE

I know the musical is way different but im really curious about how Jeff Goldblum will play the wizard. He has that kinda weirdo charm/coolness to him that I don’t think fits any with the character of the wizard in any other iteration.

Overall it was…interesting. It held my attention. I’m glad we got the OG musical out of it; because if a movie had come out in the early 2000s based on that material I can’t imagine it having nearly the same impact.

Paradise Hills was a pretty mediocre movie and reminded me a lot of that other Netflix movie with the same plot (Section 16 or something like that?) but DAMN the aesthetics went all out. The futuristic fairytale vibes were immaculate and the weirdass bondage stays??? I want one please and thank you.

I wasn’t expecting it but I LOVE IT

Anyway, this was a pretty interesting episode. More reunions, and definitely the final calm before the storm. Felt a lot less happy than last week, with the reunions mostly being between people with very complicated histories, and the dynamics of that was pretty interesting to watch. This episode did feel a lot slower than last week, and more akin to older episodes, but I still enjoyed it. Especially enjoyed the scenes between Brienne and Jamie, or, as I should say, Ser Brienne and Ser Jamie. I’m absolutely petrified for what the battle holds for those too, but I’m so happy to see the way they were portrayed in this episode.

anyway I usually scribble down my thoughts throughout the episode and then type them up but...my pen wasn’t working and I’d be dammed if I left to grab a new one so this is all from memory:

NEW OPENING TITLES

I’m digging them

seeing all the details in the castle’s rooms is so cool

Seeing the lil guy climbing around when Dany and Jon arrived is so reminiscent of Bran in episode 1 and I’m getting emotional 

seeing Arya seeing Jon, Gendry and the Hound all arrive oh my LORD

the dragon shots over winterfell? I love it

damn Bran actually sounds like he has emotions when he talks about the wall falling

Sansa and Dany calling each other pretty....noice 

I love that my girl Sansa is the only one left with a political brain. Like, the white walker threat is absolutely a priority but someone’s gotta remember what Cersei is like

Anyway, I really enjoyed this episode. After a longer than usual hiatus, it felt so great to have a new episode on screen. I think it was a perfect mix of reunions, reveals, and moments such as JON FINALLY RIDING ON A DRAGON. It felt like a last gasp of air before the ultimate showdown which will attacking our screens in a few weeks. It’s crazy to think this is the start of the end of this show, and I almost don’t want to find out how it ends, simply because after so many years of speculation and theories, having a definite answer feels so...weird. But I’m so excited to see how they wrap it up, and am going to enjoy the heck out of these next few weeks.

EVERYTHING’S ACCELERATING SO QUICKLY AND I LOVE IT (Except for Sansa vs Arya I could really do without that but I have hope that they’ll actually communicate and end Little finger once and for all)

This episode had some great moments. I love the return of Gendry, and the confirmation that Rhaegar and Lyanna were married was brilliant. My favourite moment was Jon and Drogon. As with most of the episodes of this season, more paths were crossed, and more reunions had - although, not all of them were happy. It’s interesting to see Dany heading further down the path of possible madness, and amazing to see Jon come more into his own as King in the North.

Not my favourite of the season, but still pretty damn good.

side note - I won’t have time to write a ramble review next week, as I’m going off on holiday. I’ll just have time to watch the episode before leaving, and then will be deprived of wifi and reliable 4g til the next Monday. But I will be back for the finale!

and then I proceeded to flop onto the bed to try and process what I’d just watched. What a bloody marvelous episode.It’s certainly up there with some of the best. Not only did we finally get a full Stark sibling reunion (-Jon), we got Brienne and Arya, and that. battle. Honestly, the battle sequences are utterly mind blowing. Their budget is incredible, and what they’re able to put together with it is amazing to watch. I couldn’t catch my breath during it. So well directed, and shot. All of the things we’ve spent years waiting to see are finally coming together this season. Meera gave a touching performance, and it hit home how different Bran really is. 

Favorite Scene: Podrick telling Brienne that Catelyn would be proud, of how she honored her vow, whilst they watch Arya pushing Bran, with Sansa alongside.

I love how Sansa is sitting with her knees up. It seems quite childlike. It’s like how Arya licked her fingers and seemed much younger again, after hearing Jon had taken back Winterfell. No matter how much shit they go through, hearing/seeing their family brings back out that youth and love within them

except for Bran who has seen all of the shit the world has ever put out

Also!! Telling Bran he’s lord of Winterfell shows that Sansa doesn’t really care for the title. She cares for her family. I’m not sure where Jon fits into that though. Can he still be king in the North and not be Lord of Winterfell?

The writing and acting were brilliant, as usual,  in this episode but I felt like some scenes dragged on a tiny bit too long. They needed to, to accurately give out important information, and tie up plot lines, but it doesn’t make me want to dash and rewatch the whole episode. I think it felt slower than the previous episodes, due to this, which is mad as a ton still happened, and it’s incredibly fast paced compared to previous seasons third episodes. 

Jon Snow brooding on a cliff, with the wind blowing through his man bun, was glorious though, and, I flippin love a Stark reunion. Even if one of them is a bit of an emotionless all seeing bird.

Again, it hits home how fast we’re approaching the end game, with multiples story lines meeting up, or closing down. 

(I also just watched the preview for next week and!!! Arya overlooking Winterfell!!! Yes!!!!)

honestly thought this was a flashback to Dany’s birth for a second which would of been kind of pointless

interesting conversation with Vary’s and Dany. It’s quite good leadership on Dany’s part to be forgiving, and telling him to inform her if she’s ruling incorrectly, rather than betraying her.

You can definitely see the madness that could rise though, when she tells him she’ll burn him alive if he betrays her

Again, a really good episode. I love how fast things are progressing. Seeing all these storylines finally merge, characters talking about each other, reminiscing on past exchanges/characters is incredibly satisfying. It half feels like those old disney channel crossovers - ‘Holy shit, Hannah Montana is interacting with Zack and Cody’ expect it’s always been the same show, just very different geographical locations. The Arya scenes were my favourite scenes in this episode. The Inn made me cry in a heartwarming way, whilst the scene with Nymeria broke my heart. That ship battle at the end was incredible too. Incredible performances by so many of the actors this week as well.

Here’s to episode three!

and goddammit can Arya and Bran meet up with Sansa at Winterfell already it’s been 84 years. (and can we make sure Arya’s still heading up there bc I’m worried)
