Before last night Apollo's the only deity I've ever communicated with via tarot - I'm not sure why, really, but both Zeus and Hermes have been on my mind a lot (abnormally! It was persistent!) so I did a reading for each of them. I asked that they just send messages they’d like me to know through the cards. the results were interesting:

Zeus's reading was very 'inner wisdom' and strategy/ planning, fitting for a him. He was both telling me to exercise caution and be sharp, and I didn't quite understand it at first. I thought it was a reading that was full of 'bad things WILL happen' and so I pulled a card for clarity, after telling him I was a little confused and if there was a way he could help me understand. Then he gave me my signifier card (the card I use to identify myself and my personal card) - the knight of cups. I took this as a meaning to remember who i am. someone who dreams big and makes it happen, just like the Knight. i think he was just telling me to make sure my ducks are in a row and to stay peaceful and calm inside, even if the outside is not. there’s a lot of chaos around me now so I have to be still on the inside. Reading back through them today, this is obvious - it's a spread full of steady wisdom and sitting still and a peaceful inner strength.

Hermes' reading was very intuition based and asking me to redefine what success is to me and also asking that i am ready for things i might consider unconventional. My way to happiness might not be what I expect and it was very much a spread full of "making dreams into reality" and "be prepared for a pleasant surprise!" and be open to things that may not be very obvious.

Very interesting to get the hints of their personality via communication like this. Zeus so far is a rock in the white-watered river, and Hermes is seeking out open doors even if they don’t seem like doors right away. Or at least, these are the qualities they’d like me to have. I would say these are both excellent pieces of advice for what I’m going through and I’m grateful. I'll definitely be using tarot more often for this - I'm a very experienced reader, I just never felt the pull to use them to communicate. Silly of me!

Relationship Struggles

I’ve always said that I’m bad at relationships. In fact, I even started a blog post last week with “I’m bad at relationships” as the opening statement. It’s still sitting somewhere in draft form.

Filming has left me unable to post

I didn’t end up posting much, aisch! This is mostly because of filming, way back in the months. Won’t show anything else of the project because of privacy issues, but I can’t resist showing off a few stills. :) I directed (aka: stumbled my way through) a small student Media Arts project about an eccentric private investigator in an alternate take of the film noir "Maltese Falcon". It was a really good learning experience for me – definitely want to head in the film direction in the future, I think (seriously hanging out for a chance to do some stopmotion animation though, come on UTS course!).

Storyboarding/thinking of camera angles/etc destroyed my life for a while, though... 9 pages of this stuff was... death:

A while back I also travelled to TINA (This Is Not Art) Festival for some adventures, including exploring the Newcastle coastline, attending writing panels, poetry readings, experimental plays and midnight cabaret (I’d previously thought, “eh, theatre”, but after a whole weekend of free plays and talks… wow! Theatre, I realised, is really a marvellous thing. As are actors – the way they fully embodied characters… depending on the play, it was fun, it was beautiful, it was just damn disturbing at times, and I loved it. And all for free (excluding foot fuel/hostel fee). :D Definitely visiting TINA again next year, if I can).

For the Zine fair, I sold my own zine – a story and illustration book called ‘The Magic Hands of Abdolas Parr’. It’s about… ah, but that would spoil it! Sample pages below (forgive the shoddy photography/shadows):

I have to admit, I was also slightly scared that -nobody- would be interested in them, though. So when a few kind and curious strangers leafed through some copies and bought some on the day… it was a thrill. Thank you so very much. *hat tip*

I made my own pseudo "business cards" to give out on the day, too, haha. Decided to hand draw them, 1) because I’m not pro enough to have any business cards printed and 2) I love things with a handmade quality to them. So many craft/art fairs feature machine-printed goods these days, and whilst that’s still very awesome in itself, in my opinion there really needs to be more handmade stuff out there. One of a kind, "the author put some of their heart into this" kinda' stuff. I guess that’s me being romantic about it, rather than practical, though.

Ah, that was a nice ramble. I’ll try and keep up blogging from now on (good therapy!). Self motivaaaaaaation!
