#Dhanushkodi Tirtham is one of the Tirthas in the island of #Rameswaram, #TamilNadu. This is located beside the ghost town of Dhanushkodi at the easternmost tip of #RameswaramIsland. Lord Rama used his bows(Dhanush) end(Kodi) to break the bridge #RamSetu. This bridge was used for Lord Ramas army to cross over to Lanka for the victorious war against Ravana. https://www.instagram.com/p/B8GIGPEBh1O/?igshid=186hpdi1c0ran
Misty Mornings: What could be one of the best views of sunrise, the Bay of Bengal from Pamban Island's shores, is not a scenery you'd wanna miss. From the break of dawn, the waters and their studded fisherboats keep changing hues, with each passing minute. From an intimidating dark to pearly, frothy blues, these waters are a paradise to both eyes and ears, with their gentle, bubbly hymns contrasting their grave appearances. The gales here are quite the turncloaks too, being all mellow and pleasant in the day but masking off to villainous rumbles at night. What's quite beautiful about the view from over the pamban bridge is that the sea visibly retains mists, well into the morning and if you look at the horizon, you'd just manage to notice a shimmer of the view. ~A.J. #hymnofhues . #pambanbridge #pambanisland #rameswaram #rameswaramisland #rameswaramdiaries #traveldiariesindia #natgeoyourshot #travelphotography #travelblogger #_coi #tamilnadutourism #_soi #tamilnadudiaries #indiadiaries #poio_ #travelrealindia #oyocation #picxy #traveldiariesindia #travelrealindia #indiantravelgallery #yourshotphotographer #_woi #_m_o_i #lpmiphotochallenge #lpmicontest #coloursofindia #oyocation #tripotocommunity (at Pamban, Tamil Nadu, India) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3M04jhpOmH/?igshid=11l3hwv04cwxo
Waterfronts: Rameswaram, though popular for its rich culture and historic prominence, is now gradually shedding it's pristine naturality, feather by feather, and getting made up to attract more masses of tourists. Some potential environmentally hazardous frontiers are springing up that pose a direct threat to local martine ecosystems. But as always, lack of control and regulations on businesses as long as they pay, is going to prove heavy on the rich wildlife of these waters. ~A.J. #hymnofhues . #rameswaramdiaries #rameswaramisland #rameswaram #rameswaramtourism #tamilnadudiaries #tamilnaduphotography #tamilnadutourism #photographersoftamilnadu #photographersofindia #poio_ #traveldiariesindia #_soi #_coi #travelrealindia #TLPicks #travelphotography #picxy #indiadiaries #natgeoyourshot #yourshotphotographer #traveldiariesindia #photographers_of_hyderabad #photographers_of_india #indiantravelgallery #_m_o_i #lpmiphotochallenge #coloursofindia #coralreefdestruction #photoaddicts20 (at Rameswaram) https://www.instagram.com/p/B24P52VJYq5/?igshid=4tg3wyepit5j
Submarine Springs: One of the most compelling features of Indian mythology & fiction, that bring legends so close to reality that most still bear faith in reality of such stories, is how ancient writers incorporated real structures & phenomenon into their tales, particularly what're seemingly bizarre & inexplicable to men of those times, adding a virtual genuinity to their version of origin of these wonders, purely for a lack of alternate/real explanation for their existence. What you see in this frame is one such wonder & has one of the greatest works of literature wound about it; The Ramayana. What is brilliant is writers of that era took real world entities & wrote of their unknown origins with surreal inceptions as plots of their works & did such a great job that even today, many forget that these creations from the books aren't actually how they came to be. "Villoondi Theertham", literally translates to "Spring from arrow/bow piercing". The original story from mythology spins off this way: After defeating Ravanabrahma of Lanka, Rama was returning with his associates & Sita through shores of Rameswaram (arguably named after a Sivalingam placed here by Rama) priorly known as "Gandhamadhanam", when Sita expressed thirst. Rama, lowered his bow into the sea (shot an arrow into seabed, in some versions) to bring forth a spring of fresh water, from underneath the saline sea water. It is uncommon phenomenon like this that bind readers to legends when no other explanation exists for such an absurdity. Complete credit to the brilliant writers. But scientifically speaking, this phenomenon is natural & common as rivers merging with seas. Sometimes these inland streams flow into seas at such shallow depths that the crust gives way, & streams flow outward. This particular submarine stream has a well built for pilgrims to draw water & bathe in. Truly a very interesting place with calmer seas and milder waves. . ~A.J. #hymnofhues . #villoonditheertham #rameswaramdiaries #rameswaramisland #rameswaram #tamilnaduphotography #tamilnadutourism #photographersoftamilnadu #poio_ #snapseedindia #traveldiariesindia #_soi #_coi #_m_o_i #travelrealindia #natgeoyourshot #ramayanam (at @ Villundi Theertham, Rameswaram) https://www.instagram.com/p/B21yU1cJgAC/?igshid=wvclkebktl6t
Another one from the shores of Rameswaram. This place has absolutely knowledge me over with its melancholic aura. Even in brightest days and on warmest nights, you can feel the ancient bones of this place rustling right beneath the surface of these sands, waiting patiently for someone with genuine obsession, to be rightly rediscovered. What began as a leisurely pleasure trip soon rolercoastered into a full-plume history tour with Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi offering such irresistable relics and being the sucker for colonial structures that I am, I was and still am completely obsessed with its calmness, its humility, the people, and particularly its crown of ruins from ages that lay lost between pages of history. Rameswaram and Dhanushkodi are places I will always be pulled back to. ~A.J. . #villoonditheertham #rameswaramdiaries #rameswaramisland #rameswaram #rameswaramtourism #tamilnadudiaries #tamilnaduphotography #tamilnadutourism #photographersoftamilnadu #photographersofindia #poio_ #snapseedindia #traveldiariesindia #_soi #_coi #_m_o_i #travelrealindia #hymnofhues #TLPicks #travelphotography #picxy #indiadiaries #indiapictures #natgeoyourshot #yourshotphotographer #_woi #photographers_of_india #indiantravelgallery #oyocation #lpmicontest (at @ Villundi Theertham, Rameswaram) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2CRlxPpDdO/?igshid=18rdejk3l42pr
To be here when a storm makes land is a thrill. I was travelling from Rameswaram to Kanyakumari on a train that was supposed to leave around 9 but a potential storm hit alert was issued and since the Pamban bridge is the only railroad and a single track at that, into or out of Rameswaram, the train was delayed by 5hrs. Then for reasons that I learned not, the train started in those very gales but there wasn't a drop of rain. And once upon the bridge, the winds whistled through our carriages, sending shivers down every single spine aboard. The ocean below was churning as if it had half a mind to swallow us. Dark and seething with foam, the water waved like blood under moonlight. Trains usually do not go above 20kmph on this short stretch, so we got a full 30 minutes worth of adventure for just a 100 rupee rail ticket. This is a place that I definitely wish to travel to again 🖤 ~A.J. . #pambanbridge #rameswaram #rameswaramisland #rameswaramdiaries #traveldiariesindia #pambanisland #natgeoyourshot #travelphotography #travelblogger #_coi #tamilnadutourism #tamilnadudiaries #indiadiaries #poio_ #travelrealindia #oyocation #picxy #LPMIxWPD #traveldiariesindia #travelrealindia #hymnofhues #indiantravelgallery #yourshotphotographer #_woi #_m_o_i #symmetry #lpmicontest #photographers_of_india #photographersofindia #hymnofhues (at Pamban Bridge) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1_izhOJdGV/?igshid=uv7btzhvrp0v
Serenity: Being honest, I did not expect the Bay of Bengal to be so clear that it out the skies to shame, at Villoondi Theertham in Rameswaram. This picture waa taken at noon, when the incidence of light is almost perfect with a subject as scarce aa this. This shot was taken at between 3 - 4 feet of water and look at the refracted bed with lighter saand-waves still riding the waves at the bottom, over heavier sediment. This location is relatively far quieter and serene and if you want to spend some quality time doing nothing but to listen to the winds tell tales of distant shores and the frothy waves kiss your toes, this is your pick. . ~A.J. . #villoonditheertham #rameswaramdiaries #rameswaramisland #rameswaram #rameswaramtourism #tamilnadudiaries #tamilnaduphotography #tamilnadutourism #photographersoftamilnadu #photographersofhyderabad #photographersofindia #poio_ #snapseedindia #traveldiariesindia #_soi #_coi #travelrealindia #hymnofhues #TLPicks #travelphotography #picxy #indiadiaries #indiapictures #natgeoyourshot #yourshotphotographer #traveldiariesindia #photographers_of_hyderabad #photographers_of_india #indiantravelgallery #theinkeddreams (at @ Villundi Theertham, Rameswaram) https://www.instagram.com/p/B1bmmYWpnEw/?igshid=ty4o9lx3yli1
