Maybe a lil snippet from post pneunomia Rami?Still in the hospital, maybe shortly after they have a small celebration forBen being accepted to the uni in Aberstwyth.Rami seemed almost completely normal in that scene, so its very likely that he just,,crashed after that, literally.Poor lil guy doesnt have that much energy yet!Maybe the others feel guilty about getting him so excited whileRami is just laying down on his bed, totally floppy from exhaustion.Doesnt have to b much angst, only a little!😊
They go downstairs to the cafe, buying five pastries and five drinks, and then they all sneak back into Rami’s room— Gwil imagines that the nurses must be absolutely sick of them by now, but it’s just for a bit. They need to celebrate. Ben had insisted they didn’t have to, they really didn’t, but Rami was just as insistent that yes, they did, and it’s hard to deny Rami much of anything on a good day, let alone one where he came out of a coma.
Ginnie sort of stands watch by the door, hoping that the nurses will ignore a kindly middle-aged woman with a sweet smile, but she drifts around the room as well, speaking with all of them, congratulating Ben again, over and over until he blushes. Joe sits at Rami’s bed, not leaving his side— the celebration is supposed to be for Ben, at least that’s what Rami keeps saying, but in Joe’s mind, it’s for Rami too. Though he makes sure to keep congratulating Ben as well, and in-between helping Rami take slow and careful sips of his juice, he starts looking up things about Aberystwyth.
Rami’s not sure if he should eat the pastry or not, but he takes a small bite anyway, the bit with the most frosting on it. “I’m so happy for you, Ben,” he says, and Ben smiles at him gratefully. “I really am.”
“Thank you,” Ben reaches out, resting his hand on Rami’s foot, as far as he can reach from where he’s sitting, and Rami gives his foot a playful wiggle.
“Find anything interesting, Joe?” Gwil asks, taking a sip of his juice.
They all expect Joe to be down and complaining about Aber, and maybe in his head he is, but he just reads off a list he found of the most interesting things to do in the city, trying to sound enthusiastic about all of them.
“I think it sounds amazing,” Ginnie says, and Ben and Gwil keep smiling at each other, nervous but happy.
After a few minutes of looking at pictures of the Butterfly House, and discussing why the university would have a statue of Edward VIII, Gwil realizes suddenly that Rami hasn’t spoken up in awhile. He quickly looks over at him, seeing that Rami’s eyes are heavy, almost completely closed, and the grip on his bottle of juice has loosened; if he didn’t still have lid on, it would have spilled over the entire bed. “Rami?” Gwil asks gently.
They all look at Rami, as if realizing the same thing that Gwil had, that he’d been silent for almost too long. Rami doesn’t say anything, just makes a quiet sound, eyes barely moving.
“Babe?” Joe asks, straightening up in his seat, ready to run for help if need be. “Are you okay?”
“Mm?” Rami murmurs. “I…yes. Tired. I…” He trails off, and the bottle falls from his hand.
“Rami?” Joe asks, and he leans down so that his ear is by Rami’s mouth, listening to him breathe.
“I think he’s just tired, Joe,” Ginnie says, walking over to him. “Exhausted, probably.” She reaches out, taking the bottle from Rami, setting it on the table.
“He just…passed out, though,” Joe says, lifting his head. “Is that— Rami?”
Rami makes a quiet noise, and manages to open one eye just a crack. “Sleep,” he whispers, and Joe smiles faintly, reaching out to squeeze Rami’s hand.
“Okay,” Joe says, “you sleep now.” He leans down, pressing a kiss to Rami’s forehead, nuzzling against him. “We’ll be here.”
“Should we go?” Gwil asks, looking at Ben.
“Probably,” Ben says.
“Oh, no,” Joe, says, looking over at them. “Stay. Please.” He’s got an edge of sadness, or maybe still nerves and fear, to his voice, and his eyes look a bit desperate. Everything from the last few days has taken its toll on him. And even though Rami may be asleep, Joe’s still wide awake.
“Yeah, of course,” Ben says, giving him a comforting smile. “Until they kick us out at least.”
“Okay,” Joe says, and he lets out a sigh of relief, looking back down at Rami. He squeezes Rami’s hand, but he gets nothing back, Rami’s hand just loose and floppy. Joe lifts Rami’s arm up, and lets it go, dropping back to the bed.
“Joseph,” Ginnie says, and Joe sighs.
“Yeah, I know,” he says, and he shifts in his seat, leaning down to rest his head on the bed, looking at Rami.
“I’d be tired too,” Gwil says, looking at Joe. “He’s just resting. Big day and all.”
“He’s alright,” Ginnie says, leaning down to press a kiss to the top of Joe’s head.
“He’s probably stronger than any of us,” Ben says, “so he’s going to be fine.”
Joe keeps watching Rami, and he nods, knowing that Ben’s right.
