Amity had a date.
At least-- she was pretty sure it was a date. Maybe after all the craziness, this picnic with Riley was actually going to be a break-up picnic, a see ya later, wack-job! It wasn’t like Amity would blame Riley. Even though they’d been there through everything-- the fight with Ashmedai and then the flight with her mother (the latter of which had been ten times scarier)-- it made total sense for them to go home, realize just how badly Amity had fucked up, and then let Amity deal with it on her own.
But Amity hoped that wasn’t what it was. Even though she definitely had more important things to be thinking about (like, a trial and the fact that her name was blasted around town and how she basically didn’t have any money or future haha), all Amity wanted to think about was this. A date.
Even if it was a break-up picnic, she at least owed Riley something...nice.
So she arrived at the lake and set it up herself, having packed a whole picnic basket with goodies from the inn. She put out fresh flowers and a whole board of meat and cheese and crackers, and a bowl of fruit too. She’d even uh... looked up some weird Minnesotan TikToks that she knew Riley loved and then worked with Bones to create some kind of midwest lime-jello-and-pineapple monstrosity that didn’t look edible to her, but, maybe Riley would love it? Maybe it would save their relationship?
And then she sat and waited. For the end? Or the beginning?
Amity scrambled up when she saw Riley coming. “Oh uh--hi!”
