Training scores were out, and now was the time to make his moves for alliances. Not that he would maintain the alliances too far into the Arena, because everyone knew that was a fool’s strategy, but having allies for the first couple of days was a good idea. People to help thin the herd, as it were. So when Tio spotted exactly the tribute he was looking for, he headed over to the Career and leaned, casual and cool, against the adjacent wall.

“Hey,” he said. “I’ve got a proposition for you.”

Tio had just left Wattson, and was doing slow shoulder circles to test out his arm. It seemed to be working, if painful. He’d be okay. He had to be. He followed along the windowed side of the house once he’d gotten inside, so he knew roughly where he was, until he found himself in a small room with a bunch of bookshelves. He’d never been much for the more academic side of the Academy, but he certainly knew what a library looked like. It was pretty in there, with big windows and comfortable furniture. Much nicer than the reference section where he’d made out with Waverly Sanders last year. And there was also another person in the library. An ally, which was lucky.

“So, come here often?” Tio asked as an opener, leaning against one of the bookshelves.
