I've become very critical of films and judging them a lot based on their villains. Like, I need them to still be villains - don't try and redeem them at the last moment or excuse all the shit they've done or act like they’re not the bad guys in the situation - but also make them human. Unless your villain is a literal demon or evil entity, they need to still be realistic.
And also, make the consistent. And make it so their actions make sense. For example, don't give this guy a sad backstory and a reason for doing what he’s doing, if you're not gonna use it properly. Don’t give him a reason for being the way he is, if you’re just gonna then turn around and show us that no, he’s doing this because he’s just basically a complete asshole.
