didn't have much time for computer stuff today, but did spend a little time getting debian customized a bit on my laptop and fixing a couple other hard drive configuration things with the dual boot system.

my only complaint really is that i cant make the text, buttons, and menus small enough, but that's a problem with lots of modern os's. everyone's expecting a super high resolution display with very tiny pixels and an old 14" 4x3 1024x768 monitor is just too small. you never used to have to worry about scaling or zoom or adjusting the dpi on screen.

also network filesharing. getting that set up in linux is proving to be even more complicated than in os/2.

i'll get back to the computer from the poll soon, but it's nice to be working on something that actually works and does what you want it to. i can use this as a learning opportunity and to familiarize myself with debian and linux in general before moving back to that awful thing.

also nice to get back in classic os/2 again. although network file sharing on it seems to have broken itself, may have to revert to an older backup (although my most recent is from 2017) or at least revert the lan manager compnents to the backup version (os/2 is very modular that way)

also, after puttering around in debian for a while, im starting to think it would probably be a decent candidate to put on my main laptop that i hardly ever use.

it's the thinkpad t60. the last "real ibm" thinkpad (still made by lenovo but with ibm branding)

it came with windows 7 when i got it used, and i quickly upgraded to windows xp. and got an os/2 dual boot system working. normal classic os/2 runs great, it being the last "real" ibm thinkpad, it was a bit of a target for the os/2 community. eventually i replaced xp with windows 10 (keeping os/2 intact) it stayed that way for a while. windows 10 ran ok, but it was stuck with the 32-bit version and it just got slower and slower so i put xp back on it, but not having a normal browser can be annoying sometimes. debian would probably be pretty speedy on it and also have normal firefox. of course, i would definitely be keeping the os/2 dual boot system intact.

i’ve fallen down a hole of looking at commodore 64 accessories and im not going to be satisfied until i get something, price be heavily considered.

im thinking either sd2iec or the final cartridge 3+. maybe jiffydos, i need to open mine up and see if the kernal rom is socketed or soldered.

or maybe i’ll just blow my wad of cash that i dont have on a commodore 128

or a new power supply, the one i have works fine but every time i turn it on im terrified its going to go bad and fry my computer.

these recent windows 10 builds cant access network shared folders on windows xp or earlier. it inconveniences me. google is no help, all you can find there is people who cant access windows 10 from windows xp, which i can still and always have been able to do. oh well maybe i’ll figure it out one day.

also if my windows 10 password was just one character shorter, i would probably be able to access windows 10 shares directly from windows 95, but the password limit on windows 95 is 15 characters and my password is 16 and im not gonna change it just for that.
