Hi! User @nezzeraj reached out to me regarding the “bless you” thing in Korea.
(Thanks again for letting me post this :])
“I live in Korea and you are correct :) Saying "bless you" is a Judeo-Christian concept and became associated with sneezing during the time of the plague so it doesn't exist in most Asian cultures.”
I've had hellotalk for a few months but I still don't feel confident enough to use it because my severe lack of skills. How are the people you talk with? Are the supportive or judgy or?
Hey anon! I actually haven’t used it yet to talk to people but I have downloaded the app just to see the layout and features. That being said I feel like despite your skill level in the language you should still put in the effort and maybe try talking to someone. I’m pretty sure native speakers will be happy to talk to you especially if they’re on an app like HelloTalk. Both you and the native speaker are there for the same reason which is to learn each other’s languages. Initiating conversations and allowing yourself to make mistakes (whether in pronunciation or grammar) are the key steps to language exchange. So I say go for it anon and if they do seem judgy maybe they won’t be the right people to talk to in an app like this. Hopefully the people you’ll find will be on the more supportive side :] Good luck!
HelloTalk
Hey yall! I’m here to promote an app called HelloTalk. It is a language exchange learning app that has over 2 million users worldwide and is similar to WhatsApp. It has features such as in-app translation, text-to-voice, voice-to-text, transliteration (conversion of text from one script to another), and grammar correction. With HelloTalk, one could learn and practice a language with native speakers (and yes they do have Korean :D) Check out the website if you are interested and try the app out especially if you’re interested in talking to native Korean speakers.
