Song Review: Tommy Emmanuel - “You Needed Me” (Live at Home)

Tommy Emmanuel loves “You Needed Me” - for the melody.

Though he hums along and softly sings the title once, Emmanuel stays true to his love and plays the song instrumentally at his home, a performance just released on video.

Recorded many times, most notably by Anne Murray in 1978, the Randy Goodrum number is back because Emmanuel is concerned “the younger generation (may) have never heard this simple and powerful melody.”

It’s an improvement over the studio version released on Living in the Light and, most importantly, allows guitar geeks to get a glimpse of how, exactly, Emmanuel does what he does with an acoustic guitar.
