do you have any advice on how to get better at using the grizzco splatana?

YESSS YES I DO!! it’s my favorite weapon!! I’m very very normal about the grizzco splatana [lying]

the gsplatana is a super powerful weapon, and my favorite grizzco weapon! it has the ability to pierce armor just like the gslosher, with its trade off being the fact that it has ZERO range. absolutely none. it’s a literal melee weapon. so you have to go up to a salmonid to attack it, no attacking from a distance [aside from throwing bombs]. granted, it’s a lot safer to do so than with a gslosher. an uncharged swing does 200 damage, which makes VERY quick work of lessers, and isn’t slow to use. it’s charged attack, however, can and WILL one shot just about anything that it hits [aside from mudmouths, but it’s usually safer just to throw bombs into the mudmouth anyways], the one thing to keep in mind is to make sure you’re safe from harm while charging an attack. you’re left very vulnerable when you’re charging an attack, as it has a slow charge time. I’ve had many times where a lesser hitting me while I was charging an attack made me miss the attack entirely, so having your immediate surroundings be safe from anything attacking you while you’re about to attack is very important.

the gsplatana also lacks any good ability to paint, so you’ll have to depend on your teammates to paint the map. however, you will paint under your feet when you attack thankfully, so the weapon is actually still okay for mobility! it also doesn’t have bad ink efficiency, so you won’t feel as slow as you would if you had a gslosher. the forwards lunge you can do with the gsplatana by holding forward can be very helpful with attacking a far-off boss, though it’s not something I use that often. I usually prevent doing one by jumping, standing still, or even moving backwards as I’m about to attack. it’s less disorienting for me and I get to stay where I am.

as for bosses, going after the armored bosses are a given, flyfish can be a bit tricky at times since you have to be under them to attack and you can get hurt with the ink they spew out under their cockpit [yes I have been killed by it before, very funny]. killing drizzlers and steelheads help clean up the map, killing drizzlers is beneficial as you can kill them in one charged swing, even if they have a lot of health and protect themselves between attacks. you can even OHKO maws when she pops up to attack! [well you can even attack her while she’s swimming by aiming for the bobber, but I’d recommend not trying that until you’re more confident with the weapon, or else you’ll just get frustrated when she eats you]. the only regular boss salmonid I can see a gsplatana struggling with are fish sticks, as the weapon cannot paint walls for the life of it. you will struggle to climb that stick if it hasn’t been painted for you already by another teammate.

as for night waves, gsplatanas are SO good during griller waves as they can also OHKO grillers, but it’s best to have a little bit of elevation and someone who’s taking care of the smallfries for you. they’re good for rush as well, though during something like a golden rotation a grizzco roller WILL be the designated chum/goldie killer lol. the one wave a gsplatana will struggle is during mothership, as you’ll really feel the lack of range you have when going after chinooks and trying to hit the mothership when it’s at basket [jump and attack it!!].

the gsplatana is hard and technical to use just like the gslosher, but when you get the hang of both of these weapons they’re extremely fun to use! I’m very happy you asked for advice, as I’ve seen so much hate for these two weapons that really don’t deserve it, and it can be really tiring. but I’m always happy to try helping someone that wants to improve! in the right hands these weapons are very scary. hence why the grizzco splatana is my favorite weapon in the entire game, yes even counting all the normal weapons. I don’t care if I can’t use it in pvp, it’s still my absolute favorite!! so I’m very clearly passionate about this weapon. anyways, you won’t improve overnight as much as it would be nice, you’ll just have to practice at your own pace [when the rotation allows for it, at least big run is in a few weeks as of writing this]!

one last thing I’ll leave you with are some youtube videos that explain the weapon in better detail than I could, I HIGHLY recommend this one by rachelskiiiiiii, she goes more in depth about the weapon, and has a ton of other weapon guides for salmon run too! I’m an experienced player, but I do love watching her videos so I can take note and improve more.

Hi, I’m ranmitakefan, she/they, but you can call me Ran or Jai (a nickname I sign my art off with so there’s no point keeping it secret).

I like to draw!!! (yippee i sound five years old lmao). Seriously though I really enjoy sharing my art on here and this is the only thing stopping me from getting terrible art block so i love this platform and am slowly learning how to use it.

I have a lot of different varying interests so a full list would be redundant within a month and I don’t have the will to live to update the list frequently, but I’ll share some of them below.

Anime: BANDORI!!!! (everything from og popipa to avemygo), Madoka Magica, D4DJ, Jujutsu Kaisen, My Dress-Up Darling (even if it’s a bit freaky at times), Takopi’s Original Sin (PLEASE someone talk to me about this anime I love it so much), K-On!, Bocchi the Rock!, Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL and ARC-V, and whatever airs most seasons I end up watching.

Games: SPLATOON (my favourite game series), Garupa (I play on the EN server and I’m open to being friends if you DM me), Needy Streamer Overload, vivid/stasis, Mouthwashing, FNAF, Project Diva (all of the series), OMORI, Genshin Impact, Magia Record and Magia Exedra, Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and a lot of other switch exclusive games.

TV Shows: Steven Universe, My Little Pony, Doctor Who (im a newgen tho it’s so embarassing), She-Ra, House MD, Scrubs, Friday Night Dinner, The IT Crowd, and more British shows I can’t remember.

I’m a university student studying Computer Engineering, and I’m interested in games development and enjoy coding. I also cosplay sometimes with my friends at conventions usually.
