my ctntduo are both shapeshifters - i think theyre both just different types.
i believe cquackity is properly in charge of what form he presents as and is almost constantly choosing to consciously present how he does. i think he chooses to appear as a duck hybrid because there's meaning to it for him. his scars - such as his facial scar - are present regardless of the form he's taking. if he completely lets go of his shifting, i think he resembles his in-game skin much much more.
i believe cwilburs form is more based on the environment he was raised in and wasn't ever something he had control over. being raised by cphil and ctechno - even though i dont believe they were incredibly present guardians - resulted in his appearance. his horns, wings, ears, etc are aetherian hybrid traits. his tail and legs are both piglin hybrid traits. i think once he became a teen, he stopped developing any new traits.
actually by this point i might as well just make a cwil kin ( ? ) blog

while it was before lore was " definitive " i do think about cq's small dirt home ctommy and cwilbur poked fun at him for + ctommy briefly "taking it over" and planting random crops in it .
