You ever had a job that’s both really relaxing and really frustrating at the same time? Cause like, don’t get me wrong, I love my job. I’m a bather/brusher at a dog grooming place and I’m now currently training to be a groomer as well. It’s amazing and I get to hang out with dogs all day. And there’s only three people, including myself, that work there. And like, both of the people that work there are real chill.
My only issue, and this is the frustrating part, is that we have some very different views when it comes to the world, America specifically. My boss, bless her little soul, is a Trump supporter. A die hard Trump supporter. Now, she’s a good person. She know’s I’m gay(to a point, but I’m not explaining that to her), she knows I’m mixed, she supports me in everything I do. But then she speaks about Trump and I want to stick my head in the ground. She’s a fifty something year old while woman, who believes in ‘all lives matter’ because it doesn’t matter what race you are all people are equal. She swears up and down she’s not racist. But she fails to realize that she is, just a little. I understand, she’s innocently ignorant(and I use innocent lightly) but I just wish she thought a bit more and was more educated on racial matters when speaking to me, a black person. She believes that Trump is a good person. If she were not my boss and if I knew I could easily get another job, I would love to correct her. But I am beyond terrified of saying anything that could possibly get me fired. So I listen and change the subject. I try to bring up politics as little as possible with her. There’s also a matter of, and she’s only said this once because I don’t bring up my sexuality often, that she does not support the gay life style.
My coworker, I get along a little better with her. We have similar ideals, we both don’t like trump, we have a similar sense of humor. But there are also things she says that frustrate me. Like we somehow got to talking about prison and things. And we have very different views on how the prison system in America should work. Now for those uniformed, America has some of the highest prison rates in the world. I was just speaking aloud and said that if we treated our prisoners more like people, we probably could lower prison rates. It’s worked in other countries, I don’t see why it wouldn’t work for us. I said if we could rehabilitate them, they’d be less likely to commit crime again. And maybe this is just varying opinions between people but it still rubbed me the wrong way. She said that, no it’d be better to put them all in chain gangs like before. Make them do work on the side of the road like old times. It would tire them out too much for them to want to be violent when returning. Which, I don’t agree on. Forcing others to do hard labor like this is inhumane. She said to pay them, so they’d understand, but I don’t think it works like that. The only thing we could agree on was allowing them to get a better education while locked away. It just makes me frustrated that she seems to be like one of the many others that don’t see prisoners as people.
I really like this job, I like the people I work with, I love the dogs and I like the work I do. I am ten times less stressed than at my old job and I am thankful for that. I do not wake up dreading to go to work. I wake up and I’m always there early. I just wish sometimes I could tune my hearing out and I could press a mute button and not have to listen to things that people say that make me just so....very very very....VERY frustrated.
