Just gonna rant. I play and am learning several instruments. 1 of them (piano) I have been playing since I was 9yo. I am in a LOT of forums for musicians - instrument specific or not - and nothing makes me angrier than seeing posts from teens asking if they're too old to start playing an instrument or not sure if they can make a career out of it because they don't enjoy playing for 16 hours every day and if they can't make a career out of it then they've wasted all this time already and need to quit.

To be CLEAR, I am not mad at these kids, but there is clearly a whole-ass society failing them.

You can learn to play an instrument any time! I picked up 3 more this year at 40yo (harmonica, voice, and castenets). I picked up two others at the beginning of lockdown (djembe and tin whistle). Music should be, first and foremost, FUN. And we are SUPPOSED to be having fun in this life, otherwise why bother? Pay bills then die?

There is NO obligation to play an instrument WELL in order to like it. You will not expire at 20. Nor at 30. Not even 40 or 50! Most of our brains like to keep learning things and having new experiences our ENTIRE lives, so you should keep doing that. You CAN join a band, create music, learn instruments, blah blah blah well into your old age.

But goddamn. Kids should be allowed to be kids and they should know that it's okay to do things that aren't your career. Not just okay, but super good for you!

So it seems like in the last week some internal memo went round that everyone has to start using emojis constantly instead of typing out words in their posts and I mean, I’m sure that’s great on mobile where you can actually see them, but here on desktop all I’m seeing is a load of black rectangles everywhere.

I guess so far this seems like a regular Old Person complaint about change, but I just want to clarify that hey, if this is the way language is going online (and let me be clear, it is a linguistic divergence and not laziness or lack of education like some people imply), browser companies really need to step up their support so that people can actually see them across platforms, and don’t give me that tiny black and white bullshit, I mean actual colour. 

It’s 2018, stop living in denial about how communication in text-form works online. Emojis and picture-based communication is here to stay now bloody well facilitate it. I’m tired of piecing messages together just because I happen to be static enough to use a desktop for a lot of my online interaction.

Edit: OH MY GOD TUMBLR IS ADDING THEM ITSELF. I TAKE IT BACK, FUCK OFF TUMBLR stop editing my messages with emojis which don’t even fucking well show up across platforms HOLY FUCK THIS IS AWFUL

I’m so fucking sick of being so poor all the time honestly if I have one god-damn new years resolution is to have one fucking paycheck that isn’t spent on bills and food before I even get it and to make it one month without having to go to the food bank anyway. Seriously between bills, my bus pass that I need for work, rent, dog food and people food even a nice paycheck is pretty much gone before I touch it and I’m so sick of it.

And yes I do spend money on like eating out occasionally(and by that I mean like fucking taco bell or some shit) and other nice things but that amounts to like maybe $30 bucks a paycheck I guess at this point I should just stop spending money ever on anything like fuck.

Just learned twins from highschool, two sets went to the same university and we are at this one with another from highschool, its an awkward trend, but then again they’re all close by and twins are costly....

why does skype need three seperate logout/close functions. I want it to close, it hides in toolbar, I want it to close so I signout. I want it to close so I quit skype and then it finally crawls off my computer.

like when signedout ad trying to close “you wont beable to send/recieve messages” Im fuckin signed out, what’m I gonna recieve??? cant I just have a close that actually closes.

I've decided to hate english classes now. yeah. resumes arent fun in free time or for homework.

its a little more than hard to have a good resume with next to no experience, just my opinion.

I think when people take language classes, after the first two/three semesters of presentations on topics they should allow people to apply themselves accordingly to the project instead of just "your topic- powerpoint -words-public speaking- now"

But instead have more free ranging options, like hey if you're good at art, or think its your strongpoint, go ahead do a fucking masterpiece on your topic. You like Music? Compose/mix up something in relation to or stemming from your topic, you like public speaking? feel free to do a presentation. You like sports? Make your team setup or who'd do what accordingly like a game or how it'd go down differently. You like Theatre? write a short play or scene, even monologue. Fitting your strongsuits to do a project you can actually  not be ashamed of for being a speaker with a 5yrold's ability. But maybe one point of confidence for the semester.

That way people can actually have less pressure and with it being at the end of the semester can actually put their heart into something while every other class college kids suffer through drains their very being from sleep deprivation. Give us a goal to actually want to work toward and show our strong points rather than stabbing at the weak points to make them better.
