yeah, I wasn't really talking about corrective rape. it just made me consider it I guess. shouldn't all misogynistic violence (female infanticide, rape) be treated as hate crimes?
Misogyny is too ingrained into our culture to really parse it out from “other” motives. I do agree that it should be considered a hate crime but it’s just too… frequent and subtle. I think in some places, crimes against women CAN be considered hate crimes if the motive is shown to be primarily about hating all women and not just one woman in particular but I can’t see there ever being legislature to make it more than that.
Interpersonal violence against women (ie a man hating a specific woman who he knows and interacts with) is hard to tell from like.. hatred of ALL women. Because women are everywhere, all men interact with women on a regular basis, etc..
With other forms of hate crimes it’s normally easy to tell and parse from like “Oh no, they hated this person for their actual character and not their identity.”
I’m not explaining this well because I’m on the tail end of my fever and I still can’t breathe out of 1.5 nostrils but like… motive in general is too murky because of the specific ways misogyny functions.
